Not a bummer

Mar 16, 2022, 4:16 PM

We have a solid coach and a solid program with lots of returnees posed to have a great season. Then you will be really pissed. Get excited! Go Tigers!

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

OK, put it in writing, what is a great season?

Mar 16, 2022, 4:21 PM

And then we will talk about it, because I'm sure it will sound like . . .

Injuries, fans weren't supporting enough, they didn't listen to his coaching, they only lost by one point to . . .

I sure hope you're right, but based off history, it will be meh. But meh may be good enough for you. So what is a great season to you?

9th-12th in the ACC?
Above .500 non-conference, below .500 conference?
Sitting at home watching the NCAAT and the NIT?

Do you consider this season a great season? What would you call a great season next year?

TIA.

And don't forget, he needs to be paid more. If we want him to win more games, he will only do it if he gets a fat raise, or so I have heard from wise fans on this board.

A great season to me is a somewhere around 5th in the ACC. No more than a couple non-conference losses. Basically a season like Miami or Wake had this year (Wake got hosed). Trip to the NCAAT and hopefully a day 1 win.

Your turn.

BB is a Good guy, just not the coach that will make us consistant winners in the top half of the ACC. Not putting the guy down but record speaks for itself...

Yeahhh babbyyy!!!!

Even with the returning players that Brad has already said aren’t good enough?

I’m on the edge of my seat already.

Some of us, wanting Coach Brownell to succeed, felt the same way after the Sweet 16 season. He returned a similar percent of offensive production and minutes played as he will next. But he also returned a more productive bench than he’ll return next year. That year we finished 8th in the ACC. Lost in the first round of the ACC tourney. And we’re beaten at home by Wichita State in the NIT. Is that what we should be excited about? The thing is you don’t actually believe that anything better is coming. You’re just perfectly content with the status quo.

I remember that year too -- I was expecting to reach the tourney...then I watched 2 of the top 3 players get injured and basically never recover (Reed and Mitchell).

We had Elijah Thomas who was fine in his own right but he was in foul trouble so much with those two not being as effective.

Funny -- had I not watched Tiger BB that year I'd have no clue there was more to it. This was definitely a disappointing season because that squad never got to return to full strength but I was able to take in that things happen and move along.

Not saying I'm a full on "Brad is forever" kind of supporter because I wanna see us do better but let's add in the details behind some of these seasons folks reference.

I mean, last season the team did what I thought they would -- make the tourney, though it ended quicker that I thought to a scrappy Rutgers squad.

This year I knew would be a wash with what we had returning but believed we had potential just wasn't 100% how it would go.

Next year I expect a tournament squad that may be able to make some noise in post season (conference and the Dance).

No, I'm not a Phil Steele Nostradamus of bball but as a casual fan that tends to keep up and dig into things to get a better feel for what to expect.

My thought do trend toward BB being out next season if we have a similar year to this one.

Mitchell had a bad knee and played. Where do you have Reed injured?

It also ignores that injuries are part of the game and building quality depth is supposed to be part of the job.

Mar 16, 2022, 7:47 PM [ in reply to Re: Not a bummer ]

It’s a tough business and he is expected to win regardless of how nice a guy he is. I just happen to believe we have a lot more than just a coaching issue in the hills.

When you want to punish what someone does that you know was mistake, and I believe that Neff himself knows that it isn't the thing for Clemson Basketball, but he will have Dabo and Clemson FB for his approval rankings. Tiger nation should punish him for the basketball mistake by not buying any tickets, and put a note on your IPTAY donations, that you hope that your hard earned money isn't going towards paying Brownell's salary bc, that is spending your hard earned money on a very bad product, and how against that you are. I know when the administration looked around at a half empty death valley when it was time for Tommy West, and Tommy Bowden to go, they both were let go pretty quick.

I know when fans just gripe about how things are going, nothing changes, it's just more of the same O bc, they keep paying for a bad product. Stop paying, and the people that can make changes will listen bc, Money rules in every thing that love having!!! It's past time that fans stop paying Brownell 2.5 mil a year, and affording everything that most of us can't afford.

Brownell can go on vacations that could cost 150K for week, and laugh at the stupid people making it possible for him and his family to afford those types of vacations, and all he has to do is have 12 seasons of mediocre basketball seasons, it must be nice.

Hamilton, Boeheim, Bennett. None in the NCAAT. How long have they been at their respective schools? I don't know why 12th year and not making the NCAAT is viewed as having any kind of correlation.

You can say only x trips in 12 years. That's a better argument.

if Neff want's to put his big boy pants on he'd make the move Clemson needs to make and Drad never did. Sadly CBB will likely be back do the incredibly low expectations that apparently our AD has for men's basketball.

Let's see what the AD says about the repeal of SC NIL law(thank God)...

Mar 16, 2022, 10:37 PM

He made a big "to do" about NIL "Guidlines, Constructs of legislature, etc, etc,bs rhetoric. With this news what will he do for semantics? That is all I expect is more semantics, nothing proactive. He can do literally ### ever after July 1 but I'm sure he'd rather not acknowledge that NIL is to be repealed at the beginning of the fiscal year.
