Nintendo Switch Help

Nov 28, 2021, 4:48 PM

I am 100% not a gamer and not really that excited about getting my son a Switch, but here we are and I have some questions.

Son is 7. Basically just does Roblox on iPad now. Only game he knows.

For the Switch, what are some good games that are appropriate for a 7 year old? Mario Kart,
I am assuming, is still a huge hit. What else?

Yes but I think

choosing plays and all could get a bit tough for him at his age. But I am not sure.

NBA 2k 22 is a good option if he likes sports.

I can recommend games but not systems. I play a ton with my late teen nephews but all PC based stuff. been playing with them since they were kids. Somehow that doesn't sound right.

A few years ago Minecraft was like the game of the universe for kids. Basically, just digging blocks and building with them. That's it. Kind of like virtual tinker toys or legos. Super simple, open world, wide open to their creativity.

Walk around an empty world with a shovel and a pick, and start excavating/building anywhere you like. Kept my nephews occupied for years. Like literally from 7-12. Both still played it on and off through their teens.

The staples for a 7 year old

Animal Crossing, Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Brothers Ultimate and Splatoon 2. If you allow him to go online and he has some friends with a switch, those games are even better. Minecraft is also still going strong

Animal Crossing, Minecraft, Pokeman, Mario Odyssey

Nov 28, 2021, 9:47 PM

Switch is popular due to the games - there is a new version OLED but it is hard to find - it is an upgrade from the older Switch in screen only - same processor a the original Switch (which I own) - I have played PGA game a lot with my sons - fun to play online, but the Zelda games drive a lot of older Switch gamers - and younger love the Mario and Pokeman stuff.

Might want to do a little research on the best for kids.

Allies and the Mario Maker. Just Dance is still a hit for the whole fam.

games.

Roblox is a cancer. Get him started on Super Mario Maker 2. Much more age appropriate and is a game that forces some semblance of creativity and never requires microtransactions.

Pay for the Nintendo Online with the expansion pack (N64 games, Sega) and there will be around 100 games he can play for free that aren't online games (no risk of CS02 stuff), nor do they require microtransactions.

Nintendo titles are pretty great for kids compared to literally every other console. Stick with Mario and Zelda until they're out of elementary school.

to all of you. We have no gaming systems in the house. I have an iPad and the wife and I have phones. Otherwise, none of that other stuff. The kids (10,8,6) all ask for it, but it ain't happening here. I hate how they turn into angry zombies with it.

I would second Animal Crossing, Minecraft, Mario Kart, and Mario Odyssey. Also, if you like games or have older children Link: Breath of the Wild is one of the best games available IMO.
