NIL and our basketball program.

No one here ever talks about it. I find that interesting, if not weird, since NIL is discussed here daily on the football board and is regularly blamed for our football program's woes.
Since many of you don't like the direction our basketball program is headed, have you ever wondered if NIL is a factor, and if so, how we can make it better for our basketball players?

Oh, I don't think NIL is a valid excuse.

Not for basketball, and not for football.
I just think it's odd that it dominates the Clemson football conversation and seems to cause much hand wringing and pearl clutching, but it's never mentioned with regard to Clemson basketball.

Why doesn't Neff take $2M from Brad's $3M salary and bring in high quality recruiters?

Only one losing season in 14 years and a ton of hurdles overcome says he does not suck. He may not have been in the dance as much as any of us wants but that does not mean he sucks. Its too bad we cant discuss this issue in an honest fashion.

This is disingenuous. The true measure is times punched a ticket to the dance. And it is not enough. So yes he does suck. He is capable of losing close games at the end of the game like no other.

Most definitely a huge factor. I think it helps us though. At least we can get players paid. Gone are the days where only the top 5-6 teams in our conference pay players.

NIL and hoops has been discussed here. D Hood even wrote an article about how NIL was being allocated per program on average, and hoops was outpacing football in that area.

We were a bad team BEFORE NIL came along. Certainly, NIL can be used as a tool towards a bright future. But, it can't be used as an excuse for a history of mediocrity.

Well PJ Hall is around 500K and word is Girard is around 400K. So that's not another excuse the Brownell cult can throw out there.

The 500K for Hall comes from someone credible. The 400K on Girard is from an educated guess.

I saw a $500k guess for Hall…it was based on social media followers and passed around on different internet forums as fact.
I’ve seen nothing to make me believe that number. Ask your source what that number is based on…

You lie yet again. Coach Swinney has said time and time again he's not against NIL, he's in favor of regulation. He has also said time and time again he doesn't want NIL to be a reason a player comes to Clemson, but he doesn't want it to be the reason a player leaves.
You hear what you want to hear. So troll away.

Most people on here who talk about NIL and the football program “woes” are linking NIL to their perceived decline in the program that correlated with the timing of the introduction of NIL payments. Since the basketball program has not experienced a decline in the last few years, it would be nonsensical to blame a decline that didn’t happen on NIL.

It, along with the transfer portal and the supposed hate/jealousy of Dabo by the media, are the usual reasons given.
No one is using it as an excuse for our basketball program. NIL is a good thing for the program, and our coach embraces it and encourages his players to capitalize on NIL deals when they can.
I just think it's interesting that NIL is never brought up here as it relates to basketball.

Since you are taking your usual shots at Dabo in this comment and the previous one where you said “It helps to have a coach that isn't against it, and hasn't gone on public diatribes saying bad things about it.”
Who was the first college football player that you saw in a NATIONAL television commercial? Hint - For me it was a quarterback on a Dr. Pepper Fansville commercial.
So if Dabo is against NIL, doesn’t embrace it or encourage players to capitalize on it, how do you reckon that happened?

JK isn’t very astute with those stats either. Got on here the other day whining about the multiple bogus fouls called against PJ and Ian in the first half of a game when in reality PJ had been called for one and none on Ian in the first half. Just makes up things to further the agenda. Probably won’t answer the question either.

Additionally, Dabo’s trip to the state capitol to lobby for reduced state restrictions on NIL throws water on any “Dabo is against NIL” argument.

I've been told it's about $2.4 million

this year for CUMBB.
When 110 Society launched, they came to my family and offered a 1:1 swap -- all the dollars that would usually go to IPTAY would be honored if given instead to 110.
And they asked for a little something extra for b-ball salaries, which are split between three big names, apparently. No one will say who they are.
Not hard to guess.
So, yeah, I think a lot about it and wonder how much it takes to keep a Bacot happy at UNC, for example, and how NIL is again tilting the competitive balance, widening the gaps between the haves/have-nots.
I assume CUMBB is a have-not, but, then again, the idea of just "playing for Duke" is no longer a selling point when their NIL spend is going to a couple of other guys, and Clemson's got a bag of money for me because I'm the best they can get.
And I wonder how big a piggy bank football has, and spends, on the guys there.
I'd demand transparency but who would I demand it of? The players? The dern collectives? It's so unbelievably opaque and, in my opinion, a load of crap as schools try to PR it into looking like something other than the huge money grab it truly is.
Until then, I'll have to sit and wonder like everyone else whether CUMBB NIL funding is on par with other ACC programs. And whether CUFB is on par with, say, other SEC programs.
Either way, donor ROI is non-existent, rendering the model unsustainable.

I heard somewhere in the area of $400K - $500K worth of NIL money. Basically, we had to match a 2-way rookie NBA contract.
