New Story: Streeter faces the unknown as quarterback battle brews

Streeter faces the unknown as quarterback battle brews

When Brandon Streeter was hired as Clemson’s quarterbacks coach in December of 2014, he had less than a month to get senior Cole Stoudt ready for the Russell Athletic Bowl against Oklahoma. After the Tigers knocked off the Sooners, Streeter had a star pupil to work with in star Deshaun Watson. Full Story »

My honest expectations about this team is to be at least a top 6 team with some type of new years six/playoff bowls. I feel that we are going to be in the national conversation for many years to come because of our recruiting. I know we are losing the best player I have ever seen and one of if not the best player CFB has ever seen in DW4. We are losing a bunch of talent but honestly the biggest question mark is of course at QB. I'm gonna miss all our players but I have extreme confidence in the ability of the guys we have recruited and a lot of those younger guys have gotten decent playing time in behind those great guys. Like I said I'm gonna miss Mike Boulware Carlos Jadar etc. But those positions have a lot of depth and experience. The only place that doesn't is QB, but I have full confidence in our coaching staff that they will pick the right guy. He ain't gonna be a Deshaun Watson but he's gonna be pretty Dang good. It's gonna be a great decade or so of Clemson football. Go Tigers!!!!!

I agree about the coaching, look what coach Streeter did with Cole Stoudt after just 1 month. He made him look like the best QB in college football against Oklahoma. After he struggled all season. I have complete confidence that our coaching staff especially coach Streeter will have a QB ready come start of the season. With our defense next year we should be in the championship again, probably against Bama again. The rest of college football better start catching up. Go Tigers.

With every super star that has move on, there are guys that will be filling in with the talent just like those guys that has left, and they will be playing for the those super star spots and will become or have the chance to become a super star replacing super stars. It's up to the new guys to work hard and prove that being a super star is their dream, and they are willing to work harder giving everything they have to give to claim those spots that super stars once filled....

Lots of egos in that room also. Tough job with that bunch. It's hard being the "man" on the high school level only to be told you are 4th - 5th string in college. 1 or 2 might leave so we can't be shocked when it happens. Tough job for Streeter but better than some folks down the road who are an injury away from another 6 win season back to 3 wins. Are they even having a "who's the backup" conversation?

I don't remember ever having so many QBs that could play

This QB situation is really crazy. What is going to happen with all these guys? and then you have Lawrence coming in next year. I don't understand why we signed Brice or why he would want to come to Clemson. Just a lot of unanswered questions.

Brice has a ton of confidence which I love. He says bring on the competition.

On the subject of graduating in 3 years

Feb 3, 2017, 6:59 PM [ in reply to just curious - Will Bryant & Isreal both likely ]

On the subject of graduating in 3 years. How are kids playing college football and graduating in 3 years. In college I was a double major in chemistry and foreign languages, fulfilling requirements for a BA and a BS in four years. For either of those majors there would not have been a pathway to graduate in three years. With the requirements of playing football, practice, etc. there would not have been enough time to take the tests, write the papers, do the labs, much less all the studying.
That being said, if we can find a way to graduate Israel and release his scholarship for another signee next year, I am all in favor of it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Israel might be the starter, so I wouldn't release anyone

I remember when Ohio State lost two QB's and were on their third to make a run for the championship. A year or two before that Maryland was on their fourth QB and used a DB that was a QB in high school.

We have no reason to release QB's that are committed. We may not need them alll but it's not by mistake they chose to be a Tiger.

I for one think it's going to be great to see who rises to the top. We will have enough time for them all to start. If they don't rise to the top they may transfer their senior year but let's leave that up to them and how their talent plays out.

We should all thank them for choosing Clemson because most schools aren't blessed enough to have one QB this talented.

Go Tigers!!
