Kiper talks Alexander's height, draft spots for former Tigers

NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper, Jr., held his final conference call with the media before this week’s NFL Scouting Combine, and with eight former players in attendance Clemson was a hot topic. Full Story »

It is my "contention," having heard him, he said "contingent." ??

It's my "contention" that a credible NFL talent scout thought can not escape from under that rigid mass he calls hair sitting atop his head. Only the likes of Jimmy Johnson had more "unmovable" hair. It is my contention that from hence forward we determine the strength of future hurricanes by the movement of Kiper's hair. IMO it would be a better use of his talents.

30th to Carolina would be awesome for us Panthers fans.

Probably not so awesome for Mack though.

Kiper and MccShay remind me that you always have to remember that people who never played a down of football need people who did to tell them what's what .
I think Alexander and Lawson are mid 1st , Dodd will be late 1st early 2nd .
Wait til the workouts are completed and you will see Mack and Shaq on everyones " moving up " list .

But I'm thinking they talk to a lot of NFL people before

putting their opinions out there. They just don't watch film on these guys and start spouting off, or at least I don't think they do.

Alexander Is A Pure Shutdown Cover Corner ----

Feb 23, 2016, 11:45 AM

Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

This time of year is always weird. TV and national media scouts like McShay, Kiper, Matt Miller, etc. are high on some guys and dislike others. It's all a crap shoot. Remember when some people were saying Tajh Boyd would be a day 2 pick and he fell to the 6th round? Or when everyone was infatuated with Bashaud Breeland for a couple weeks and he fell to the 4th? You just never know.

That being said, I respect the opinions of all of these guys. I think the reports that Alexander is a "day 3 pick" were a smokescreen thrown out there by a coach sitting in the 25-40 range hoping that they can get him with a pick in the late 1st, early 2nd, and ultimately that's probably where he will go. I don't agree, I think he is a shutdown corner and as talented as Hargreaves or Ramsey for sure.

I loved watching Dodd and Lawson play, but I personally think that Shaq Lawson is a lot more talented than Dodd, but he may not be the "sexy" pick by some scouts because he's about 6'2" not 6'5" like Dodd.

I have thought Kearse and Green both could have stayed in school. Green makes too many boneheaded plays, but his size and speed are alone will get him drafted. Kearse is huge, and sometimes he played like it. A lot of scouts don't think he has good hips and can't turn and run with receivers and running backs like smaller safeties, and I somewhat agree. I think he will probably end up in a role like Deone Buchanan of the Cardinals, playing a linebacker-ish spot for that reason, and he could probably do pretty well in that role.

I know it's a small sample, but when Mack went out in the Natty the Tigers did not look very good in the secondary. And this in a game where they had five sacks.

Then what does height have to do with anything? Mack has 0 interceptions for a reason. QB's refuse to throw on him, plain and simple. Kearse on the other hand i see going late 2 because of his lack of motivation on plays a good bit of the time. Green on the other hand i personally dont think is ready for the big time. He shouldve stayed another yr. I want to see all 8 of these boys do the best they can because they are rep-ing the Clemson name. Cant wait to see their names be called though! Go Tigers!
