"When I was young, I was sure of many things; now there are only two things of which I am sure: one is, that I am a miserable sinner; and the other, that Christ is an all-sufficient Saviour. He is well-taught who learns these two lessons." -John Newton

Looks like a good un. Lets go get him.***

He did okay against tournament teams, slashing 0.316/0.366/0.368 with a 0.734 OPS. Only had two doubles and ten singles playing nine games total against Vandy, DBU, UK, UL, GT, Ole Miss, and Murray State. He did average one strikeout per game, along with 0.33 walks/game. Might be a under the radar pickup but the average numbers against good teams worries me some. That OPS would be the worst out of the qualified hitters this year, but it's only 41 plate appearances so take it with a grain of salt. However, if he's the worst transfer they get in (assuming he does transfer), then they have done incredible in the portal.

Currently 155th rated prospect in the draft according to MLB.com. 70-grade speed with good fielding and an average arm. Only knock it looks like is 45 hit-tool on the 20-80 scale. Could be a good lead-off guy or 9-hole depending on how the season shapes up.

Yeah... I hear you about the stats but that's a pretty stout list of teams. Dare to take a gander at the numbers what anyone in our lineup would have had? And that includes Cam.

Then look at the transfers we picked up. They were almost a gimme K at every AB.

Wells Sykes wanted to come to Clemson too. Now he's a transfer star on coastal Carolina in LF. He's not a long baller but hitting .310.

That's a good point, it's probably an unconscious comparison to Cam, but obviously we more than likely aren't going to find a Cannarella in the portal. I think the lowest floor he'd have at Clemson is a 0.250 - 0.275 hitter with good fielding and great baserunning. Look up his homerun stealing catch at Vandy in extras, reminds me of a certain CF that we've seen recently. The MLB scouting report says his only issue is chasing pitches and mostly hitting groundballs. At the very least, they can fix the chase rates, which might fix some of the groundballs if he's better at selecting pitches to hit.

MLB report: "One of the toolsiest and more physical college players in the Draft, Wideman is a 6-foot-5, 204-pounder with plus raw power and plus-plus speed. His reads and routes could use some polish in center field, but his quickness still allows him to chase down balls from gap to gap. He has average arm strength and is capable of playing all three outfield spots.

All that said, there's concern about Wideman's ability to handle pro pitching because his chase rates and ground-ball percentage rank among the worst in D-I. He doesn't strike out excessively, but he struggles against velocity, rarely walks and makes a lot of suboptimal contact. A right-handed hitter with a big leg kick, he does a nice job of using the middle of the field but will have to get much more selective at the next level."

Comparing to our team, if he dropped in today (I'm sure the stats would decrease somewhat), he would be the best hitter on the team by about 15%. He also stole an unreal 45 bases on 57 attempts, which means he created 11.86 runs just by baserunning, which would be the best on the team by about 3 runs (Purify is at 8.5).

I think looking at it now, and seeing the buzz around him, I think he could easily slot in and be our best player next year if he so chooses to come. Hopefully he'll fall far enough in the draft and we can scoop him up, but I think I've just convinced myself that he should be priority #1 for hitters.

Also worth noting he still supports Clemson, he follows the football and basketball team on Instagram, so the Clemson connection is definitely still present and not just through his parents.
