Native American mascots

I was thinking this morning about sports team who use nicknames that refer to a certain group of people, and I can't help but wonder why Native American groups get their panties so knotted about using their likeness in a way that depicts them as brave and fearsome. If anyone should have a complaint about a school stereotyping its culturally themed mascot, it's the irish. I'm fairly certain not all irish people are balding, fistfighting leprechauns, but i haven't heard a peep out of them. Ditto for sad prostitutes and Presbyterian.

I agree, i think out of all the NA themed names, that is far and away the most offensive. Imagine what would happen if we changed our name to the Blackskins.

Then all us whiteskins would be jealous because we're the only ones not considered fierce or athletic enough to be a rally name (mascot).

"blue hose" apparently = mel gibson, so there's another. There was a topic earlier talking about college football entrances, and i don't know if you guys have seen PC's, but for a school with a video board the size of a large living room TV, their entrance is bad-a. They play Mel's "Freedom!" speech from the movie, and then run outbehind a charging Scotsman (mascot). Definitely A for effort.

I just can't understand how people can have so few problems that a college sports mascot can make them OUTRAGED!!!

I have found that a lot of native Americans actually like the mascot names. They would be angry if they changed the name.
