I've always heard that when someone was being recorded without their knowledge was illegal, and impermissible as evidence to prove anything bc that denies them the right to plead the 5th. Isn't that still the fact?

Depends on if it is a one party or two party state. A one party state requires that one party making the recording must be directly involved in the recording i.e. a participant. A two party state requires that both parties are involved in the conversation.

They continuously/consistently lied and completely denied any wrongdoing whatsoever until the NCAA started believing them. In other words, pick a lie and cling to it like grim death.
Of course, paying-off the NCAA didn't hurt either.

Even if Kirby was handing out Hundies like an LSU WR the NCAA would do a whole lotta nothing to one of their imagined blue bloods. And DEFINITELY nothing to Saban. I'm sure they would find a way to instead hit U of SC or Vandy with sanctions instead. You know, coaches wife baking cookies or something lol.
