My 2 Cents About The Gun Thing ....

Gotta' throw my 2 cents in concerning the gun thing ... C'mon, be realistic, 2nd Amendment Rights to own a Semi-Automatic Assault weapon to protect against potential Government tyranny???!!! Really??? Do you know the Government has things like Tanks and Jet Attack Planes and guns that can shoot 6000 rounds a minute? They really do!!! ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M61_Vulcan) They got robots that fly through the air that can blow up your #### from miles away ... they got all kinds of chit. An AR-15 is like Notre Dame playing Alabama in football. You have to remember the 2nd amendment was written in the 18th century when single shot muzzle loaders, not very accurate, was the state of the art, and a motivated peasantry could give the Kings forces a run for the money .... I have nothing against hunting rifles, and yes, you do need a repeater when hunt'in certain things like wild hogs in Western Carolina, since hogs will charge you when pissed off and eat you ... thus I would suggest a lever action repeater, good enough .... I suggest the Marlin's Model 336.

That is a good point. It is my second amendment right to own missiles to fight back against the man.

could defend against a platoon of marines.
But its a hell of a lot more difficult to pull a Pol Pot and march EVERYONE out to the fields to work and/or be killed when they are armed then not armed. And the degree to which they are armed is all the better.
So its a continuous battle over the line, with the left constantly trying to make the line more restrictive and the right resisting.
However, you and others choose to frame the issue in a way that makes it appear ridiculous without really thinking about it.

peasantry CAN give the worlds most powerful military a run for their money, see Vietnam and Iraq wars. Provided of course, they are armed.
See the revolutionary war.

Single Shot Muzzle Loaded Smoothbore (and of course, cannon... both had)
Now, each State DOES have a National Guard unit under the control of the Governor of each State, unless "Federalized". I guess these units are the ace in the hole in case the Feds become corrupt. National Guard units have machine guns and tanks and jets and stuff like that.

I'm pretty sure guerrilla tactics would be sufficient to get the point across if such a far reaching scenario were to play out.
Additionally, I would really question the "force" that could be implemented down the chain of command in our military if they were attempting securing a grocery store on a busy Saturday afternoon.

would not be the case in a total war/economic collapse/anarchy situation.
There would be some localities on one side, some on the other. You would have separatist groups within the gov itself, you would have a lot of military people who agree with one side or the other.
Bottom line is it would be a total mess, and you best be armed and prepared. The social utopia types who live in the here and now and have absolutely no concept of human history or human nature brought about this mess. Don't expect me to protect them with their wiffle ball bat.
That is the irony of it all. They think they have all these rights to healthcare and education and they would realize real quick that don't have a right to ####.

Are you just totally disregarding the fact that if Americans were to wage a war against the government, it would be like an insurgency, not like an all out war? Insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan have fought fairly decently for what they have, and half or better of those guys are total morons who can't even see very well because of poor nutrition and lack of optometry. Not to mention the military, at least in my opinion, will likely side with the people if the number of people fighting against the government is large enough. I doubt many military members would be very excited about going into their home states and killing their friends and neighbors.
I think owning weapons is a good thing for the citizens of the US. If the US government were to ever get too tyrannical, at least citizens would have some way to try and fight back.

Please see my original post. Good for hunting aggressive wild hogs and any insurgency/freedom fighter needs ... Also, lever action repeaters are fun to shoot and variety of calibers are available... I agree, if the Federal Government ever becomes absolutly corrupt, doubtful the military would fire on its on people if given the order.

And don't discount the Mossberg 464 for 30-30 lever action rifles. Both are reliable, durable, accurate, and fun to shoot.

It's all about the constitution and what the founders thought about a tyrannical central government which they did not trust and for ### good reason. We have a tyrannical fed. government today. The tree of liberty needs watering now with the blood of patriots. The founders made the fed. gov't. as weak as possible and armed the citizens to be able to resist it. Smart move as we have seen the results of an all powerful fed. government.
Give me liberty or give me death.
Too bad too many of you are willing to be slaves of the government. Not me. It sucks. I will never serve a governemt master.
