First photo is fun. In the day there was little pedestrian control at Boston.
The bars were overflow out side as no one was inside.
Beacon Street fans allowed just a small path for runners. The cheers were deafening!
Make it to Beacon and the fans would get you home if you could find a path through them.

I was a huge Dolphins fan when I was a kid. Csonk was the definition of a blue collar, hard-nosed, leave it all on to a field type of guy. When football was football.
I was also a big Braves fan and Hammerin’ Hank was by childhood hero. Loved to watch Chief Noc A Homa dance around that teepee when he hit home runs.

I was a Miami fan through most of Dan Marino's career. I quit on the NFL when they thought it was a good idea to allow the players go on strike and making NLF fans sick on their stomachs with the so called replacement players. That right there ended my NFL fan ship as a follower of the NFL...
IMPO, when a professional sport management and the athletes would rather go on strike without making a truly honest effort to reach an agreement just to make a point against each other by walking out on each other with one side joining a picket line and the other side locking everybody out until they have enough time to gather up a bunch of scrubs that couldn't make in the NFL prior to them running them out on the field and asking the fans to support their intentional strike and to enjoy their scrub sports so they could prove a point to their players...

Each year a group of us put on one of the largest high schools XC runs in the Southeast. We usually had a speaker come in on Friday night before the Saturday race. We’ve been fortunate to be able to get several Olympians to come in and speak and start the races. Joan Benoit was one of them, Frank Shorter was another along with Bill Roger’s and #### Beardsley.
>But my favorite had to be Bill Mills the Kansas All American who won the 1964 10,000 meters in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. His win was considered to be one of the greatest Olympic achievements. His win was the first and only American to win the 10,000. He’s a Lakota Indian and told the story that when he made All American at they ask him if he would step aside while they took the picture of the All Americans. Billy said, h e l l , I was the only natural American in the bunch! If you ever get to hear him speak, by all means go.. inspirational and motivational.

I ran in a race with Billy Mills in Charlotte at McAlpine Park..
He was there as a spokesman and ran at the rear with a huge crowd of fans as he was fat and happy by then.
Clemson great Steve Seaborn won the race, I was 3rd and 1st over 40.
My Bride's photo from that race was on the cover of the first issue of 'Running Journal'.

Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne Jr. Deshaun Watson, Hunter Renfrow, I mean I'm a fan to a lot of athletes but all of them played some sport at Clemson University. Well not all of them played a sport at Clemson, let's say like Canelo Alvarez, and I have been a huge fan of his since the first short clip that I saw him when he was only 15 years old and in that short clip I saw him in, he was a 15 year old kid that had just knocked a full grown man that was around I guess 27, 28 or 29 years old that was also a professional Mexican boxer. But I have been a huge fan of Canelo Alvarez since that one short clip of Canelo's left hook knocking out his opponent, and I'm pretty sure he holds the championship belts in 4 different weight classes, now that's a full blooded athlete wouldn't you say, and I think he is about 33-35 years old now!!!

WHEN WE LIVED IN HOUSTON, I never missed a U of H game and later a Rockets game when Hakeem Olajuwon played. He came to town raw, having been a soccer player in Nigeria, and became an All American and later All Pro because of his phenomenal athletic ability. His coordination and reaction times for a man his size were God given and still unmatched to this day. On top of that he was as nice a man as you would ever want to meet and always had a gentle, beaming smile for everyone. He was a class act both on the court and off. Those Houston Phi Slamma Jamma teams with Clyde 'The Glyde" Drexler, Michael Young, and Hakeem will always go down as some of the greatest college basketball teams of all time, even though they never won their final game in any year, they were so much fun to watch. Hakeem was always a fan favorite.
However, my favorite athlete of all time was Nolan Ryan. Some say the greatest pitcher of all time, who played for some really bad teams in his career, yet still posted Hall of Fame numbers, some records which will never be broken.If he had just pitched his 7th No-Hitter or he was working cattle on his ranch, his demeanor was always the same. Total understated class. The epitome of what every Texas Mom & Dad wanted their son to become. He was so loved in Texas, it would be difficult for anyone in other regions to understand, but it was real. Nolan Ryan was, and is, a Texas Treasure and my favorite athlete of all time.

Tiger woods. To me he is the goat of all goats but that’s just me. IMHO he was more dominate than Micheal Jordan at his craft. Flame away but that’s my opinion. I would give a lot to be able to watch the 2005 masters and many more again during the moment. Witnesses some live and some on tv.

I'll take Roger Staubach. 1963 Heisman. Graduated from Naval Academy and could have requested an assignment in the US but volunteered for a 1 year tour in South Vietnam. In 1969, joins cowboys as 27-year-old rookie.
When he was your team's QB, you never gave up because he would give everything he could until the last second. He led those teams to some amazing comebacks.
I grew up in Dallas and as a kid, it was amazing to have a hero to look up to on the field and off of the field.(A lot like having Dabo as a hero for kids today) Like so many of the men that played on those great cowboy teams, he went on to be very successful after retirement.
