Reflecting on the sacrifices others have made so we can enjoy this great nation. I saved an obituary a year ago to remind me of just how so many boys left and never returned. My thanks to them and to any of you who served as well.

Enjoy your day!

Most of us (certainly including me) cannot grasp what those men, and their families, sacrificed so that we could live in a free country.

Awesome post … polls show that approximately half of the people asked have no idea what Memorial Day is about.

This day has nothing to do about honoring veterans at all. Its sole purpose is to honor those that died serving this country. It is not a day that should begin with the word “happy”. Many men and women suffer greatly today remembering those who they lost.

This is the first Memorial Day that my son did not sit alone in a local memorial ceremony among friends that did not come home with him - many of whom he helped carry off of the battle field … thanks to the recent birth of his daughter. My wife and I thank God for the partial healing of a wound we know that will never fully heal.

My daughter participated in a fitness event today that honors a fallen shoulder and funds a foundation supporting families that have lost loved ones. The purpose of her participation was to feel pain in order to remind her of pain that others feel.

It is a sad day in the lives of many. There is nothing wrong with it being the unofficial start of summer … all I ask is to take a few minutes to think about what it actually means.
