But, Breaking, while athletic, is a poor addition to the Olympic sports. It is right in line with Rhythmic Gymnastics and Synchronized Swimming.

I don’t care for any of the opinion sports. Might as well give people a paint brush and then award a gold medal for painting.
I think the most popular sport in the world that is not an Olympic sport is Bowling. I’d guess Bowlers outnumber Breakers by a couple of billion people.

Yeah I tend to agree. If there isn't like a tangible, score or value added and everything is subjective I lose all interest.

I made the same statement couple wks ago. Who the heck thinks that Breaking is a sport and why would they get rid of global sports like baseball and softball. Who would watch speed walking vs baseball?

In terms of baseball, it became an official Olympic sport in 1992 for the Barcelona games and was a part of the next 4 summer Olympics. It was dropped from London and Rio but returned for Tokyo in 2020/21 due to baseball’s history/popularity in Japan. It’s returning for the L.A. games in 2028 and there’s a big push to have it remain for Brisbane in 2032.
Softball made its Olympic debut in 1996 for the Atlanta games and appeared in the next 3 summer Olympics. Just like baseball, it was excluded from London and Rio but returned for Tokyo. It too will be back for L.A. and hopefully Brisbane.
When it comes to bowling, it was featured as a “demonstration sport” at the 1988 summer Olympics in Seoul. Its inclusion in the Olympics remained dormant until 2015 when it made the list of 28 proposed new sports for the Tokyo games. It made it to the final 8 to be considered but ultimately karate, skateboarding, surfing, sport climbing and the return of baseball & softball were chosen. The Olympic Committee for Tokyo stated that the “want for sports that appealed to youth and that did not require building new facilities to reduce cost” was the reason why bowling got axed. Sounded like a bunch of horse$hit to me. You can’t tell me that sport climbing or surfing has a larger appeal to youth than bowling. Bowling is popular worldwide and having it in the Olympics seems like a no brainer. And the money to build a complex, if needed, is there. Wouldn’t cost that much anyways. But I digress. I’m not the president of the IOC.
