Hitting above average pitching, fielding, clutch hitting, runners LOB just to start. This is not a good team we are struggling with.

3rd base and SS fielding is a huge concern. Very slow at fielding.

Brown has not played well defensively and now her bat has gone cold.

They are hitting Cagle like they own her. She seems to have good velocity but having trouble getting ahead of batters. There were a bunch strikeouts she had that were on 3-2 counts. Gonna be interesting seeing how they handle pitching for the weekend. Spann & Sain and pray for rain. Sorry.....you young guys don't know what that means. Not the same team we had last season, no question, but still fun to watch.

Yep ….. Johnny Sain and Warren Spahn for the Milwaukee Braves!
Valerie is just not playing like she did last year …….. pitching or hitting. Last year when she came to bat you knew she was going to give the ball a ride ……. Not so this year. She may just be putting too much pressure on herself to carry this team. Other players are going to have to take up the slack.

I BELIEVE that they were still the Boston Braves when that saying got popular, but you are spot on, otherwise. That was their complete rotation, Spahn and Sain, and hope the third game got rained out. R/TLM

The most glaring issues are hitting and fielding at one or two infield positions.

Some of y’all are clueless. Cagle isn’t a robot. She’s taken two top 10 teams - Georgia and Tennessee into extras before losing. That’s far from getting owned. She also is hitting about .390 and doesn’t get very many good pitches to hit. Knoller and Garcia are both out and the bench is pretty thin. Get them back and the left side of the infield settles and we’ll be much better. The freshman outfielder, Johnson is gonna be pretty good. We do lack depth and the injury bug has been a problem.

Oda left game 2 tonight. I assume injury related. Hopefully nothing serious.
I guess I should be more appreciative of the softball team. They helped me get through the worst of the Monte Lee years. If softball wins 35 games this season I think that will be a heck of a coaching job by Rittman, but it’s his lack of recruiting better hitters and intimidating pitchers to follow Cagle and Thompson are what got the team into this situation. Next season it looks like the roster is going to really look thin.

Rittman is his on worst enemy so to speak. He was definitely the right guy at the right time. He excels in building programs quickly. But unlike Dabo, no sustainability. Or to use Dabo's words, consistency.
This team has a lot of parallels to our past season in football. Rittman has never really been a developmental program. The few injuries we have shouldn't affect the team like it has. Valerie develops herself. He's said as much. I suspect others have too. But the same players hit about as well as they did coming in. Many haven't gotten any better.
One thing to look at. The bottom of the 7th in game 2. The gal went down and scooped a bad pitch and plopped it into center. She was taught that in high school and travel ball. Same with the next hitter, brown. Developed at another program... it's almost like they said screw this, and reverted back to what they know. It's ok in softball to hit a ball 6 inches off the ground. Clark, never talked to the coach b4 she went to bat, never looked at him. She went up and let her naturally God given talent take over.
I'm praying this team will take matters into their own hands and play like a team w I th no coach.
We have internal issues with this t I eam. Yes, that's not a typo. Let's leave it at that. The best thing that could happen to Clemson softball in the long run is if Rittman retired at the end of the season.

You literally just made all of that up in your own brain. What else would Clark be doing in that situation other than going to swing away??? She’s hitting well, there’s one out and a runner on second. It’s not like she’s going to bunt the girl over. Rittman and the team are fine. They aren’t perfect and there are certainly things to improve on as the year moves on, but calling for Rittman to retire after one pretty good year after some really great years is insane.

The SOS is light years ahead of previous years when we were just trying to fill the schedule. We played multiple top 25 times already this year where I think this only happened in conference play last year. The SOS in previous yrs is why we got seeded so low with a great record. I think we are barely behind where we were last year and had chances to win most games against ranked teams except the 6-1 Ole Miss game. If we get healthy, I think we have a chance to be really good, but we are relying on a couple true freshman which can be shakey.
