Man, if these HC's are gonna have to renegotiate

NIL deals after every season, that s*cks. No wonder some of them are opting out.

NFL teams have GMs to manage the business end of the thing.

But it looks like these college coaches are having to play GM, talent scout, recruiting manager, NIL fundraiser, donor relations director, program spokesman, and head coach all at once. Not to mention feeling responsible for helping what is mostly a group of teenagers stay out of trouble because they promised their mommas they'd look after them. (Well, maybe not all programs. I doubt UGA makes promises to momma.)

And on top of that, they've got the incessant noise from addlebrain pundits, social media trolls, and fans popping off at every turn.

This thing is so broken. I'm glad Clemson has a dude like Dabo Swinney in place and locked up for a few more years.

I believe he's pretty well suited to weather the turbulence until some common sense works its way into the NIL/portal process.

I don't think we're gonna need the security cameras for this next part.

Dabo going to need a GM. Have to operate as an NFL team now

I guess the AD has a role to play in all this.

But at the same time, ADs have their own stuff to tackle.

Stanford just hired Andrew Luck as football GM.

I’d recommend we do the same. Wayyy too much distraction for a coach.

I'm glad we got to see Clemson at the top of the mountain before the sport went from college to professional and without rules.

I keep thinking - P4 college football will break away from the NCAA.

Four superconferences will formed along with a major realignment. Once that happens, more control will finally be established in college football. Enforced NIL contracts where you get signed for multi-year deals that can’t be breached at the drop of a hat. A re-established mandatory year to sit out if you break the contract. The contract can be renegotiated at the end of it, or you then can move freely, like a free agent. These are just a couple novel ideas to fix this broken system.

Until then, the toothless NCAA will do nothing. As has been pointed out by the best coaches in the business, the portal and NIL is not sustainable as-is. Apparently the NCAA no longer cares.

I look forward to breaking away from the useless NCAA.

Agree, but I bet Bluffton will tell us otherwise***

Clemson has guys Responsible for most of the roles you mentioned. Coaches at most schools and at Clemson aren’t involved in the Contract / NIL negotiations

When a reporter asks Dabo Swinney about his DC situation

and Swinney says he's focused entirely on player retention, that tells me these HCs are pretty intimately involved in NIL doings.

I think that as soon as the Revenue Share starts, Clemson will have someone not being the HC to negotiate the money shares with players and tell them exactly how it works and the Max amount they can get, and if the players wants more, he will have to try another well somewhere else!!!

They make a whole lot of money. They need to suck it up, get cracking, and

Jan 4, 2025, 6:52 PM

stop whining. Things are changing for the better. Suck it up or get the eff out.

I'm assuming by "they" you mean the head coaches.

Jan 4, 2025, 8:44 PM

It's not about how much money they make. It's about acumen -- they're not general managers they're football coaches.
