Dabo will make staff changes

6

Dec 24, 2024, 2:06 PM

It's not a matter of if, but who.

Dabo may be stubborn, but he is far from ignorant. He knows our run defense is going to have to make radical improvements which necessitates radical changes.

Would not be shocked if 2-3 coaches are fired or reassigned. Typically when a unit underperforms to this level he brings in a hired gun from outside the program.

I am not one that advocates change for change sake, but in this case it is obvious that something has to change. If you look at our Defense over the last 3 years, it has gotten progressively worse!!

Wes may be a Defensive Genius, but that doesn’t make him a great ( or good) coach. If he wants to go back to analyst then go but he is not a DC. IMHO

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

don't think anyone does.....you change when it's NOT WORKING

5

Dec 24, 2024, 3:01 PM

and there have been many things that haven't been working for the last 4 seasons.

some Dabo's addressed.........some he hasn't.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

many things that havent been working

Dec 24, 2024, 5:36 PM

I disagree. We’ve been an elite QB away in 21-23, and as it is we were a bad DJ day away from the playoffs - couple years back.

Things have been mostly good except for the QB situation and of course rush defense this year

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

it was more than just DJ.....our WRs/offensive skill players were atrocious....

2

Dec 24, 2024, 6:13 PM

during that time.

and the issues were rooted in roster management, recruiting, development, lack of portal, & NIL mindset.

hopefully it's turning......good sign to start with 2 portal guys.....need a few more and a DC.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Imagine the offense with TL or DW (elite).

Dec 24, 2024, 7:30 PM

They would have automatically made the WRs look better.

By the same token, DJ could have had 5 Tee Higgins and it would have looked the same.

All your other items are null and void compared to the most important position on the field.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

TL nor DW would've done it w/ the WRs we had from 21-23***

It’s comical how so many people have attributed the failures of recent years to DJU rather than the coaching staff that determined he was the best person for the job…

And average receiver play until this year

Dec 26, 2024, 8:03 AM [ in reply to many things that havent been working ]

They've progressively gotten worse on the defensive side of the ball, with the glaring deficiency being the LB development. We had to run a 4-2-5 this year because of this lake of development, and Wes' inability to prepare one of the best LB prospects in decades, to run his natural position of MIKE. Beyond that, there's absolutely no quality depth to speak of. Jamaal Anderson Jr. went from looking like a star in the spring game, to never even seeing the field. The main issue on the defense, both from a position group, and overall, is Wes Goodwin.

We lost 4 conference games last year, define mostly good***

Actually thats not true. We were 8th in the country just last season

But yeah, that run defense this year was bad. Real bad. Something has got to change.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Reminds me of

1

Dec 26, 2024, 12:40 PM [ in reply to Re: Dabo will make staff changes ]

a work situation where we had a very top individual contributor that senior management promoted into a leadership role. He ended up not performing as well as manager vs an individual contributor and ultimately resigned. This is how I feel with Goodwin. I think he is better suited in an analyst role vs coordinator.

Agree. It’s inevitable. I suspect they’ve been looking for weeks and are trying to solidify a deal. And hopefully maintain leaks from people like us. Go Tigers and Merry Christmas.

There is nothing in Dabo's history to suggest

1

Dec 24, 2024, 2:54 PM

That he won't make a change.

I think last year would have been too premature and he's smarter than to fire a coach halfway through a season where we are in contention for a conference championship.

The time is now.

Every single coach that’s ever existed makes mistakes you troll

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well yes, but very few would have hired some of the coaches Dabo did.

Promoting the likes of Goodwin and Conn to DC is probably unprecedented in major college football.

People who want to act like Dabo is doing something magnanimous by “‘making changes” need to acknowledge that he’s making changes to try to fix poor decisions HE made.

Very few would have hired Venables or Luke, either.

Dec 26, 2024, 12:46 PM

When Dabo hired Venables, how many other coaches would have been able to lure him away from his alma mater to be defensive coordinator, especially at a school that was a good school, but certainly not one of the elite at the time.

How many coaches would have been able to hire Matt Luke a year ago? Do you think Matt was looking for a coaching job where he would be "just a position coach" and not even a coordinator?

Re: Very few would have hired Venables or Luke, either.

1

Dec 26, 2024, 3:50 PM

Yes he did hire Venables away from Oklahoma but Venables was going to go somewhere regardless. Bob Stoops told BV that Mike was coming back to his staff after he was let go at Arizona. Stoops said he was going to go back to Mike and BV being Co-DC's. BV, rightly said heck No, I've had the D on my own, the product on the field has been better, so NO deal. He walked. The stars, planets, solar system, and galaxies aligned with Dabo being able to really shell out a lot of money.

tnet-military.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Please, BV had a great resume and he played at KSU, not OU***

Why is it necessary to make this comment? I think everyone is in agreement at this point that it was not the right hire. No need to kick a man when he's down.

Re: Making changes to correct his prior poor decisions.***

Dec 26, 2024, 3:50 PM [ in reply to Making changes to correct his prior poor decisions.*** ]

Of course. You wouldn't makes changes if everything was working. Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone has made poor decisions and had things that just didn't work out. He gave Wes a shot. Just didn't work out. Dabo also gave Tony Elliott and Jeff Scott a chance, nether had been a coordinator, and those worked out pretty well. So he will do what he thinks is best for the program.

Re: Dabo will make staff changes

2

Dec 24, 2024, 3:07 PM

We won't be able to poach DCs from the big SEC schools, but one of the smaller schools absolutely. So he will likely have to wait until at least 1 more round of playoffs, if not 2, to really get who he wants (assuming they are still playing).

2025 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

not saying we will, but we definitely could....we've already set a precedent....

2

Dec 24, 2024, 3:32 PM

of having some of the highest paid coordinators (the highest w/ BV) AND HEAD COACH in the country. We most definitely could make a run at one.

This isn't the "Poor old Clemson" you make it out to be.
