if it wasnt the portal it would be something else to complain about. Many are like that sadly.
Having been through the lean years I appreciate what we have so much

even without the NIL and portal is a completely different animal from my days at CU.
I tend to think at some point what we are witnessing now with those two creations of the Devil himself will implode upon themselves, thereby forcing changes for the better; i.e. enough programs will rise like phoenixes from the ashes to riot for a revamping of the entire entity known as college football. There is no way the money involved won't in of itself force the issue. Hence, I forsee a national mandate, more than likely with Congressional involvement to level the playing field.
And, as far as I'm concerned, the sooner the better for all.

You have more faith in congress than I do. Seems like they can’t get anything done anymore. Hope you are right.

Government involvement rarely results in an improvement of anything. A lot of those folks in DC talk about “leveling the playing field” but they aren’t talking about college sports. I hope they don’t use college football as a trial run for their bigger plans.

Nice article but the author doesn’t know much about Clemson and isn’t do his homework. If he had, he would have said this differently:
“Last year, when Clemson circled the wagons to beat Notre Dame, it triggered a field rush celebration emblematic of its culture.”
The gathering at the Paw is emblematic our the culture at Clemson, but it is not a spontaneous victory celebration. It happens win or lose and has been happening since well before Dabo became coach. He also talked about players staying at Nebraska but didn’t mention Clemson’s high player retention rate. But at least it was a positive article, and those have been a little harder to come by lately.

I find it interesting that the article has Dabo and Lane as opposites on the issue. Many of Lane’s comment on the state of college football are very similar to Dabo’s. Lane talks about the problems NIL and the Portal cause while taking advantage of their use while Dabo is not nearly as overtly vocally critical but is perceived to be more against them because he does not use the portal. Some would call Lane a hypocrite but that would be like saying someone who thinks the tax code should be reformed shouldn’t take advantage of tax deductions. It is never that black and white.

Reading that just makes me more disgusted and depressed with what the sport, as a whole, has become. I'm glad Dabo has stuck to his principles in a time when there are very few.

1000% this:
The original attraction for many college football fans was the ideals of scholarship, the development of boys into men, watching players mature on and off the field for four years, and amateurism. Sure, the bag and cheating have been a part of the game from the start, but it was not as crass, loud, vulgar, and in our faces as today. Furthermore, the adults oversaw college football’s glory days. Rosters were not revolving doors. Now, the opposite is the case.
Many college football fans believe that they are not leaving the game but that the game is leaving them. They hate that coaches are so terrified of players that they won’t make scholarship and citizenship demands. Many coaches won’t coach players hard for fear of losing them in a huff to the portal. College football is devolving into a player’s league, like the NBA, where coaches are cowering and subservient. For countless fans, that is a deal breaker.

We never know. It might actually turnout to build Clemson to new height for great players that want a future beyond football. Can you imagine a teams of talented players that are spart enough to know that they may achieve their NFL dreams, but they also want a school that will help them it a true back-up plan (that for most should be the main plan). I gotta wonder if men like Johnny Manzel or Stetson Bennet wish they had gone to a school that was as concerned for them as people as they were about winning games.
I like the Dabo way and am one that believes he should stick to it. Be about help people more than making money and winning games. Isn't that what we get preached at us from the time we are 5 years old until wntil we are on our own and then more after that? Yet if someone actually operates on this many say he is making a mistake. Is he really though...is an undeated season worth wrecking a kids life?
