but that will not be enough. If we need him to carry 20 times a game we are in trouble. He is not a home run threat.
The down field passing game must return to take the load off the RBs. Much of the passing yardage lately has been accomplished after the catch.

Yep. Keep the DB’s honest with a real downfield threat and Mafah can have his way.

He’s not a homerun threat but he’s not slow either, and he’s going to make some UGA players look funny in the box. I’d rather have the guy who can break arm tackles and make people miss in a phone booth to keep the chains moving.
We will have our opportunities to take the top off if we can do that.

I think the home run threat is Haynes He had a 10 or 15 yard TD run in his first couple of games It was just one carry but he went wide reading and when the hole opened he hit it like Flash His acceleration was phenomenal. Then he had injury issues Like I said it was just one play but Dabo alluded to some serious speed from him if he is healthy

My buddy manages a store in Anderson and sold some household appliances to jay and his dad. Talked to the dad for a few minutes and the dad said, that dabo told jay it was his year and his time. Proud father I imagine. But take that for what it's worth.

They need to keep him healthy....
He will carry it 20 times versus UGA, but he better not for the rest of the season.
He should probably sit out week 2 vs App State so we can figure out who is number two and three.
He is a work horse, but he is up there with CK and Swanson on guys we can not afford to lose to injury.

App State may give us all we can handle. They’re better than half the ACC we will face.

Agree. If he's quick enough to hit the running lanes before they close, he can rack up some yards and that will help CK and the passing attack. If not, we become more one dimensional again.

First, the running lanes need to open. The offense this season season likely hinges on the O-line, then Mafah, then the WRs.

mafah is one bad mafah
Riley spent the off season figuring out what to do with him and it will pay off hugely

Gotta strike early with a deep ball to force them out of the box.
If we are still unable to do that it will be a long , long day GO Tigers

As long as he doesn't fumble and improve in pass protection he will be sufficient for the offense to be successful.

even controlling the clock. I agree the passing game has to have some success, but Danny Ford made a whole career out of winning big games running the football.

We've missed that balanced attack the last 2 years.
The passing game has killed us. I read a stat where we finished first in the conference for team QBR for 6 years in a row then we have been last for 2 years now. (check that)
Anyway the passing game threat is critical for improved performance.
I will say though, mafah is good enough to carry the offense on an off night or in a bad weather scenario. He runs through first contact and he’s fast enough to score from 30-40 yards out.
Is he going to bust off many 60-70 yarders like ETN for a score? No. But how many of those do you really have in a year?
on his own to beat a team that dedicates themselves to stopping the pass.

Jay Haynes is going to very special considering nobody but us were recruiting him until CJ offered him.
It’s amazing how some of the best players end up being the overlooked ones with a CHIP on the shoulder!
