LSU Fans Visiting Clemson for the first time Tailgating Tips Needed!

Hey TigerNet crew,

We’re a group of LSU fans hyped to visit for the season opener. It’s our first trip to Clemson and we’ve heard your game day atmosphere is top-notch.

Most of us are flying in, but one friend is driving up from N. Georgia with tents, chairs, and tables. We’re ready to tailgate and dive into the Clemson experience, and we’d love your advice:

Where do opposing fans usually tailgate? Are there specific lots or areas where visiting fans like us set up? We’re cool with joining Tiger fans for some fun!

How welcoming are Clemson tailgates to opposing fans? We’re a friendly bunch and plan to BYOB. If we wander around with a bottle of Crown Royal to share or some cash to chip in, are most tailgates open to visitors? I saw on X that it’s hard to walk by a Clemson tailgate without being offered food or a drink—hoping that’s the case!

Should we buy a parking pass on StubHub, or try to join a tailgate? We’re considering a parking pass for our friend’s van (since he’s hauling our gear). The new Spring Lot pass is around $200, but it seems far from Memorial Stadium. What’s the vibe like out there? Is it worth the cost, or are there better lots closer to the action? (ive read great things ab lot 5 but $1,000 is a bridge to far). Any suggestions for lots with a great atmosphere that aren’t too expensive?

Any tailgate invites? Bit of a long shot, but if anyone has room at their tailgate for a few LSU fans, we’d love to join! We’ll bring our own beer, a bottle of Crown for the group, or some cash to contribute to food and drinks. We’re all about good vibes and a great time.

We’re planning to get to campus by 8am to avoid traffic and enjoy the pregame festivities. Any other tips for first-time visitors?

Can’t wait to see the Tigers run down the hill and experience a night game at Memorial Stadium.
Thanks for any tips, and here’s to an epic game! Geaux Tigers (but, ya know, go easy on us ).

Cheers,

Honkus

You'll need to find a parking pass. There are no designated visitor locations. Best bet would be to click on the tickets tab on this page and see what may be out there. It will not be cheap. The higher the price usually equates to closer parking.

Most visiting fans will be more than welcome to Clemson tailgates. Just don't act like the fans that's showed up on game day in New Orleans.

Since this is probably going to be one of the only times LSU is going to play in Clemson in the near future. I would definitely recommend ponying up the cash and buying a parking spot better than the spring lot (no offense to those that park out there)

Lot 5 is one of the premiere lots in all of Clemson. It is right in front of the stadium and is where Tiger Walk takes place. That being said I wouldn't pay that much. Almost every spot you can park in is going to have some sort of tailgating scene.

I have no idea how much people are charging but if you can find a spot in any of the below lots, I know for certain you will be surrounded by a lively tailgating scene

Lot 5, Lot 6, Lot 10, Jervey Meadows, Lot 2, Lot 1.

Those are just the ones I personally have experience in tailgating at, but there are other spots all over campus.

99% of Clemson fans are going to be welcoming and offer you something at their tailgate. Like any fan base there will be hardos telling you to keep it moving, it that case, do just that and move on to the next.

Looking forward to a great game, welcome to TigerTown.

Go Tigers.

Bring your own corndogs and fryer.

You'll find Clemson fans are very hospitable, and they will invite you to join in just about any tailgate.

But corndogs aren't a common tailgate food here, or anywhere else besides Baton Rouge. So BYOCD

Hmmm..born and raised 1/2 mile from Tiger Stadium, I've never seen a corn dog at a tailgate! But plenty of gumbo, jambalaya, shrimp, crawfish, alligator, hog, boudin, sausage.......

You don’t really have to get to the tailgate by 8 am unless you’re planning to smoke something; we’ll probably target noon. Traffic isn’t usually too bad for late games; now noon games are a different story they’re a CF to get to.

Can’t remember the last time I had crown; if you wanna really fit in a nice bottle of bourbon would do the trick.

You’re gonna have to pay more for parking this year in particular. There is a ton of construction in progress on campus and I’ve heard that something like 1,000 spots won’t be available this year because of it. New spring is really too far away to get the full tailgate experience. You wanna be inside or contiguous to the perimeter road/hwy 93 loop; obviously closer to the stadium is better.

Yeah you’ll find plenty of folks who will invite you in to their tailgate; I’d offer some details about ours but we’re in a new lot this year because of the aforementioned construction so we aren’t sure what is gonna happen til we show up on 8/30.

Check out the tiger band concert at the amphitheater 1.5 hours before kick, the March to the game, tiger walk, the scroll of honor, grab a beer at esso, there’s a raisin cane’s on campus and Walkon’s downtown if your missing a taste of home, and if you’re staying a day or two a 45 minute ride up to the Jocassee Gorge is a must.

Have fun I hope to be in Baton Rouge next year.

I love the corndog bit. FYI an auburn fan stole this from an online post that was originally about Nebraska fans smelling like corndogs (corn dog/state fair, etc) but applied it to us and I guess it stuck. We've embraced it however, so most LSU fans wont get their panties in a wad over it.

Its interesting tho.. as I'd put Louisiana cooking up against anyone. Yall making the return trip to BR next year are in for a treat.

Be careful on Stubhub with parking passes, it’s a bit archaic in that we don’t have digital parking passes for whatever reason so the seller has to mail them to you physically so make sure you get them purchased in advance and get them in hand. There’s been many a story of people waiting for next day FedEx parking passes and missing most of the day tailgating. There are also scalpers on the way in but this is totally a crap shoot I’d advise against due to traffic flow.

Since it’s a one time deal I’d say fork out the money for lots 1, 2, 3/3E, or 5. Lot 25 shouldn’t be overlooked either as that is right next to downtown and the bars and has a good atmosphere as well (also easier to get out of post game)

Don’t do New Spring or YMCA beach or whatever they call that now, its far away and basically requires a shuttle. If you can’t get a pass, and since yall are getting there early, I would drive downtown and pay to park in someone’s lawn or one of the churches before I paid for the New Spring lot. Fort Hill Presbyterian church and N. Clemson Ave all have first come first serve pay lots and I’d be shocked if they were over $100 per spot

Thanks for the replies so far. All great info. I figured New Spring was too far out to get the real experience so thanks for confirming.

We'll be getting in Thursday and plan to hit up Esso Thursday and/or Friday. Also heard good things about Tiger Town Tavern and Nick's (solid pub food?). But for gameday we want the full tailgate experience.

Good to know some dont get out their til noon. This might help us get a good spot if we buy a pass. I will be keeping a close eye on stubhub (or this sites ticket forum) and try to snag something reasonable.

I at least want to have a "home base" on gameday.. although I look forward to venturing out and experiencing other tailgates and having some friendly banter with our hosts.

TigerTown and TDs were the bars we spent most of our time at in school but that was many many years ago. TigerTown will be a zoo on game day; you can do a lap but it’ll take a long time to get served. Thursday or Friday night hit up the smoking pig for some pulled pork, or Lewis for some brisket if you’re gonna be in Greenville. I’m guessing though since your neighbors are TX you don’t need to come to SC for brisket.

You mentioned how top notch Louisiana food is, and I agree. I’m from Charleston and our cuisine has a lot of similarities to bayou food. I love a really good jambalaya And etouffee, but it’s also hard to beat a lowcountry boil and some bbq hash. I would pick she crab soup over anything, anywhere, any day; I grew up on it. Dayum now I’m hungry.

Buying a parking pass is excellent advice.

There is tailgating in nearly every direction around the stadium.

My most recent firsthand knowledge of SEC tailgating is Arkansas. I’d say Clemson 3 times more tailgating than Arkansas.

As advised above you definitely need a parking pass.
I was at Southwest Louisiana in the mid 70’s. Tailgating in Louisiana is wild!
I recommend going easy on the booze. Learn how to start coasting down early because Clemson has hills. I mean some big ones and it is almost as hot as Louisiana. I know this might be foreign to flat landers.
One year we had a dude from FSU who was so tore up and lost his friends on campus “In the mountains”. 🤪
He could not even work his Apple phone. He got rescued when we figured out he could open his phone with a thumb print and called people in his contacts.
Make sure you are there to watch Clemson run down the Hill.
Enjoy the experience but not the outcome.

We look forward to the game and the return trip next year.

Welcome to the Valley and looking forward to a great game.

Just get there... Make sure to hit the Esso and that bottle of crowne will go far.

Side note.... One of the best times I had at a tailgate was in 2011 when Oregon and LSU played at Dallas Cowboys stadium. I was living in Dallas at the time and a buddy of mine got us tickets through his LSU friend that went by "Uncle Lou".

It was a night game, but we started early with the best spread of food I have ever seen at a tailgate. It was so good and the booze was flowing, so I don't remember the game, but I have great pictures to prove I was there. To be honest, I don't even remember who won the game.... I think LSU did.

Just get around the stadium on gameday. You will be taken care of.

If you decide to park downtown at a church, it is about $35 or so. We had a second parking pass at St. Andrews Catholic church just for a friend to park at if she didn't ride with us to the game. Our regular spot was Lot 6.

You can google St. Andrew Catholic Church for addresses of churches downtown to get addresses. St. Andrew does not stop partying in the parking lot, but you have to be decent about it.

Backstreet's is a decent bar too. Nick's is kind of small so it gets crowded very easily. All bars downtown will be crowded so be prepared.

Believe it depends if you have a pass with a reserved spot, or a general admission parking lot.

If the latter, I'd be parked at the lot entrance at 7:30-745 to get right in at 8am when they open. If a reserved parking spot, I'd still be there early to avoid traffic. Before 10?

FYI, St Andrews now sells season passes. I’ve been parking there the past 3 yrs. They now only have available spaces for those who notify them in advance of not using it, otherwise they hold spots until an hour before kickoff to sell to the public.

If you are paying for a lot I'd recommend Lot 1 or 2. They are close to the entrance to the visitors upper deck and from there it is easy to get to downtown or Esso or the game. Also it is close enough to the stadium to be able to grab a beer and food from your car at halftime (Best Clemson Tradition that won't be around much longer).

As an LSU fan I am assuming you are a heavy drinker so make sure to try a
Mind Eraser from TTT (chug the whole thing through the straw) and Pitcher of Clemson Goodnight from TD's. Also if you go out Friday night before the game the bars get very packed before big games like this so get to a bar early, like 7-9pm and plan on staying there all night. Don't try to leave to go somewhere else, the lines will be crazy.

If you are going up on Thursday stop at Smokin' Pig for dinner. Friday it will be very crowded but you could still try. Dyar's Dinner is also very good for Sunday when you are leaving town.

Have a great trip, worst of luck to you in the game, and we will see you in Baton Rouge next year!

Smokin' Pig in Easley? Looks like it would be an easy stop on the way to Clemson from Greenville.

Check and check on the Mind Eraser and Clemson Goodnight.

Lots 1 and 2 are currently ~$900 on stub hub. I think i'm leaning toward parking at the church and setting up there. Great call on going to your car at halftime though. I could see how that could work out.

I see how you guys now see alcohol at games. Just a coincidence with LSU coming to down, I'm sure..?

I remember in 2011 when we went to WVU LSU fans drank them dry by the 2Q :)

The Smokin Pig in Easley is one of 4 locations, imo I get the most consistent quality of BBQ there vs Pendleton or Hwy 81, and the lines in Easley are normally shorter too. If you go to the in Pendleton on a game weekend get there between 11-1130 or be prepared to wait, however they do have a bar and putt putt course now so at least you won’t be bored.

Highly recommend their sliced brisket or a combo plate. Oh and get their banana pudding, it’s by far the best around

Welcome to Tiger Town and The Death Valley. I always appreciate true football fans that are respectful of their hosts when visiting.

Just to set expectations, Clemson is a VERY small town. Only 18,000 full-time residents and about 28,000 students. You've likely been to Auburn. Clemson is similar to Auburn in some ways but less than a quarter the size of the population. Some have referred to Clemson as "Auburn on a lake."

Our campus is beautiful, our alumni and fans are ever loyal, and our Tigers are ferocious.

I wish LSU were bringing the full "Golden Band from Tigerland" but I imagine it will just be a pep band. I've always really enjoyed the LSU Marching Band.

Enjoy your time in our little slice of heaven.

Check out a parking map online and go from there. There's no special place for visitors to tailgate. Just tailgate where you park and treat everyone as you would like to be treated and all will be well. As others have said, bourbon is the drink here.

Find a pass. 3A will probably be the easiest to find on the stadium side of the lake. However, on Hwy 93, in the neighborhoods behind The Esso Club, people rent spaces in their yards for the day. About $100 bucks. It's directly across from the stadium and close to all the festivities. Most fans will partake in good natured banter, but are usually very welcoming.

Secured a pass in lot 6. 9x23 feels a little small but its supposed to back up to a grassy area. I saw there is a rule about sound levels. We wont be bringing any major speaker system but hopefully we'll able to play music at a reasonable level.

There will be drunk people, so you never know what happens. You will probably find a couple of iffy people. That said, I think you will find the Clemson fans to be great people overall and love the experience.

Where are you coming in from? ATL or GVille or somewhere else?

If you're spending all the money to come to the game, get a good parking spot...

Don't miss the Esso Club, a stone's throw from the stadium...

Staying in Pendleton. Friend of mine is a professor at Clemson. Esso and TTT are on our list for Thursday and Friday nights.

One thing to do is buy a decent bottle

of bourbon (or two) if you're looking to ingratiate yourselves to the average Clemson brood. Canadian whisky isn't a big player down here.

As for logistics and what to expect:

The thing about Clemson is it's a very small city -- only about 20,000 souls. So game days are all about family and football, where everyone exists in a Death Valley-centric universe for about 12 hours.

It also means that a city built for 20,000 is suddenly home to 200,000 people within a three-hour window each game day, and that brings significant logistical challenges.

So be patient. And wear good shoes you're gonna be getting your steps in one way or another.

If you end up in Lot C-4 (I think that's the Spring lot?) -- you're on the opposite side of campus from Death Valley. The good news is you'll go right through the heart of campus and pass a whole lot of tailgates on your way in to witness what I hope turns out to be a Clemson win of epic proportions.

As for places to check out:

Of course if you can get to Death Valley early enough you can get a good shot of the Rock and the Hill.

I'd say go to the Esso Club but it'll be an absolute zoo. So will College Avenue where all the other campus watering holes/eateries are located.

As for etiquette:

Y'all are most likely Southern so you know the drill -- be friendly and you'll receive friendship. Act like jackwagons, you'll go it alone.

I've NEVER met a rude Clemson fan, nor have I ever witnessed a Clemson fan, drunk or sober, being rude to an opposing team's fan, even when they're those who claim allegiance to that abortion of a football program in the city we won't name about 90 miles south of Clemson.

They're selling beer for the first time in Death Valley. FYI.

Oh, and not that you need to be reminded of this, but, it's not Clemzon. It's Clemson.

Glad y'all are coming! Have a great time and GO Tigers.

I'll be in Lot 6 and will swing by. You'll like it over there, plus can easily get to Tiger Walk for the experience.

As almost everyone here has said fans will be welcomed. As we police our own when some get too rowdy, we'd hope you can as well. =)

What's your way too early prediction for the game?

Sounds good. Yes we police our own. We will should be pretty loud and boisterous though.. nothing in your face or in poor spirit.

We like to take over bars, start cheers ("GEAUX.... TIGERS" chants back and forth for ex., playing calling Baton Rouge on the jukebox etc.), and generally get into good natured back and forth with opposing fans.

Will never forget V.Tech road trip in 2002. Main Street in downtown Blacksburg the night before the game. Thousand LSU fans on one side of the road, Thousand(s) if Hokies on the other. Back and forth cheers for our respective teams for hours, until the police came out and broke it up. I believe tear has was sprayed to make the crowds disperse.

While I doubt we'll have the police called dont be surprised to hear very loud and passionate LSU crowds making our precense known inside of your favorite drinking establishments. All good natured fun and I hope all dont take offense.. on the contrary would be great to get into some back and forth with yall leading up to kickoff.

Im expecting a close hard fought game and leaning toward the under as I feel like our defense is being a little slept on (i also have a great amount of respect for your DL.. could give our green OL some trouble). But i also think your secondary questions arent being made enough of.

27-24 good guys on a late FG. How about you?

Flowing for sure.

The rowdiness may get drowned out by our calls too.

That said a few factors

1. First night game in a while for us
2. New def coordinator
3. First time beer served inside.

I think our crowd makes the difference and we get a late scoop and score to out it out of reach.

35-24

Clemson

Enjoy the trip. Two weeks away!

Go Tigers! Our Tigers. :)

Just got an email for the Champions Tailgate. 4 hrs of open bar/buffet for $150/ea plus a premium view of the Tiger Walk.. seems like a pretty good deal. Could do some damage in 4 hrs.

Anyone ever been?

If you are looking for cheaper pricing then Check out North Clemson Avenue. It runs parallel behind the road that Esso Club is on. There are a lot of houses back there that sell parking in their yards.

As others have mentioned you can go to the tickets tab on here and buy parking passes to individual games. I like lot 1 and 2 because they are grass lots and hopping and close to the stadium. I park in lot 1 this season.
