Mitch Hedberg himself would have paid good money for that joke, but in here, it's like a fart in an elevator. My talents are wasted.

when it was first built - part of their commissioning crew. Saw some really scary things. Was also burnt really bad (3rd degree burns) by big piece of nickle on a kick-off table that malfunctioned. Interesting, and hard, work. And Dangerous.

second mark.
Each mill stand has guides on the entry (entry guides) and on the exit sides (delivery guides). The delivery guides get blown out of the stand just upstream of where the cobble occurs. They either worked loose, or there was a defect on the bar that caught them. The delivery guides travel with the bar, through the looper and wad up in the next stand. The cobble cascades back and eventually the bar jumps out. In most rolling mills this happens every few hours.
Most cobbles occur on the nose of a bar coming through the mill, so mill folks have a habit of looking up every time a bar nose comes through the mill. It becomes instinct, like looking before crossing a street.

Chain it to an overhead crane and drag it out of the way

so you can get started back running.
Cut it up with a torch as needed to get it out of the way.
Once back up and running, cut it up into little pieces, pick it up with a electromagnet hooked to an overhead crane and dump it in a roll off or pit to be collected, remelted and re-rolled at a later time.
A cobble like the one in the first video would average around 15 minutes of downtime. The biggest issue is figuring out what caused it so a recurrence could be avoided.
