Local talk radio today did a couple of segments on...

....Deion Sanders. The gist of the discussion was what would happen if FSU finishes 6-6 or 5-7 or even 4-8 this year. Would FSU fire Norvell and hire Deion?
Their points were: 1. Deion has made it very clear he wants to be the HC at FSU. 2. Deion is a hot commodity on the coaching market now. (Not sure I agree with that. Deion is telling people he is a hot commodity, or at least his agent is. Not sure ADs are considering him a hot commodity.) 3. If FSU doesn't fire Norvell this year, after a 6-6 or 7-5 year, Deion could wait one more year. FSU could tell his agent, "Be patient. Next year the buyout for Norvell will be small enough we can pay it and afford to hire Deion.
My take: Those guys are just talking for ratings. They have nothing to support their "concerns" that Norvell may get fired and replaced by Deion.
1. I don't think the FSU administration would be stupid enough to hire Deion even if Norvell finished 4-8 this year and 0-12 next year. They may fire Norvell, but they won't hire Deion. If they think Jimbo was a ticking time bomb, they ain't seen nothing yet. Deion is a great promoter of Deion. There is nothing in his background to suggest he is this generation's Bobby Bowden or Dabo Swinney.
2. I am making this promise to y'all today: If FSU actually hires Deion at some point in the future, I will change my username to clembret and hope to see several shirtless men reading books in Doak Campbell Stadium not only for the Clemson game but for several other home games for the Noles.

The way he treated FSU the last 2 years at least, actually more like 3 years, the fans have more dislike for him than Clemson fans have.
He is a jerk. If you took a poll among fans for who is the biggest jerk in the history of the NCAA the top 2 vote getters would be Spurrier and Fisher. Not sure who would end up #1. It would be close.

Although, it couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch than Aflac Insurance. I hate those clowns. I had their product for one calendar year, a year in which I had a lot of medical issues. Not one dime did Aflac pay on a single, solitary claim. Be forewarned.

IDK, I think the admin would be resistant but that will be a tough sell NOT to take him. I kinda look at Deion akin to Scott Frost. A hot coaching alum name but with limited history.
It is one thing to convince some mid-level talent to john JSU to run amuck in a lesser league. Same thing for UCF. It is a far different ball-game when you have to convince the top talent to join your squad over the known contenders. THAT is hard. That is what made the late 90s/00s hard for us vs Bowden's FSU. Sure, we could get a few but getting a complete team is hard. Could Deion get a complete team over the Saban, Dabo, and Kirby? Or will he be fighting for Ol'Miss scraps.
What I am seeing from Norvell is that his kids are not quitting. That is a big deal and hard to turn around. Frost kids quit. Jimbo/Taggert kids quit. Norvell isn't there. Even when Dabo was interim/2nd season, there were hard times but they didn't quit. Changing the culture there is a big deal (look at Miami). Because to have a chance at the upper levels, you need to over-perform with less first. Could he take a mid-level program an win?
The scary and I don't think it is a good idea, but FSU needs to find a Doeren-like coahc that is winning more than expected at a rubbish tier school.

Jackson City Council with Sanders' recent interview wherein he indicated his interest in a P5.
The council passed a resolution supporting a new stadium for J State, hoping to convince Prime Time to stay. So much for that!
If there's one thing I've learned about college football: expect the unexpected. Therefore, I'm convinced some P5 will want him, gold chains and all. And I wouldn't blink if it was a program like..........Auburn! lol. FSU is probably on the right track with Norvell; he just needs more time.

Scott Frost got his dream job, quickly I might add, turned out FUBAR, BV got a dream job and Oklahoma went backwards quickly, Oklahoma shouldn’t have regressed this much in one season. Florida St., should be prudent here, Norvell is changing the culture in the right direction, I’ve definitely seen progress in them. Deion will get his shot one day, it’s just that we see stuff like this happen a lot and it goes south quick. Even though Harbaugh has Michigan playing well the last 2 years, it’s taken like a decade, the size of his contract is what kept Michigan from firing years ago.
All of Miami’s moves have been disaster’s. FSU actually has a shot at finishing very well this year. I really don’t like FSU, lol, just looking at it from the outside and comparing it to some other situations in the past. Which school hired Les Miles? KU or KSt.? That was a disaster too.

group of 5 school first. His success at Jackson St is very impressive and he has done as much off the field as he has on it. His persona is a bit much but he has a serious tone most of the time. I do feel he is sincere and purpose driven in what he is doing. I've seen all of the tv interviews and watched his shows to tell that he's the real deal...but not sure how it translates over to winning at a P5 school.
What Deion has going against him is that he draws a lot of emotion from people no matter what he does or if you like him or not. The first sign of trouble or a loss, he will get hammered publicly by his critics (pretty much all of TNet) and Deion will eventually go on a rant that could embarrass a university.
I think he'd do well as a P5 coach, but there is no way to know how good (or bad) he will be without seeing it first. As for me, I hope he gets a P5 job.

He was a self-promoter when he was a player. He proved he was also an outstanding player.
I have seen nothing to convince me he would be a successful coach. A successful coach has to be caring about the success of at least 200 other people, not just the espn headlines about him.

Norvell looks to have FSU playing better now than in several years, so it would be crazy to not give him at LEAST through next season to see if the trend continues.
Sure, Sanders might be a flashy hire. And likely could lure a bunch of talent out of HS, but still not sure he is ready/able to lead a big time P5 program. GT, or a decent G5 program would be a better fit for now, until he can truly prove himself of deserving better.
I actually liked him a player at FSU/NFL/Braves, but sure soured an those ridiculous AFLAC commercials quickly!
