It’s coaching and talent.
There is a considerable drop off in the depth of talent now as it was 5 to 6 years ago. I mean, come on …it’s not even debatable. Look at DE, LB and safety.
Our results against our peers have shown that
Portal utilization needs to evolve, but the most important piece is we MUST improve high school recruiting.

NoChin, without more quality players to work with, a new DC will make no difference. Our recruiting has missed Coach V more than we miss his coaching.

As long as can recruit high school at the same level as the past and hang on to them. Right now, we aren’t, so we have gaps and depth issues we have to address. Fortunately, we can still afford to be targeted and selective because we haven’t lost too many to the portal.

The talent has dropped off. Safties really struggled this season. Linebackers were hit or miss depending on which game. I think the D line underperformed for whatever reason. Cornerbacks were average IMO. I do think there were coaching issues in the big games.
Linebackers played to far off the ball and got dominated by downfield blocking on run plays. Safties took terrible angles all year.
A fresh start would be good for everyone. Hopefully a few more portal players.
