Line trucks....

Highway I-26 Eastbound near Columbia this morning had an endless caravan of line trucks. Overflow parking lot at Home Depot was full of them. They must be queuing up to work in Florida.

Pray for that group of men. That is a dangerous and tiring job.

A month of that in 1994 pretty much ruined my health

Possibly.. I know hard hit areas of Augusta are starting to get power back. A friend of mine in that area just got power back late last night.

So if that area is starting to clear up they might be staging the crews there for reassignment to Western NC. With downed trees I am sure they have to clear roads before they want to bring those trucks in. Some of those roads, you can't back one of those trucks out or turn it around if you run into a downed tree.

That said, with another hurricane in the Gulf, standby for Florida is also a possibility.

Many thanks the line crews! I really appreciate the long hours and hard work! I also want to say thank you to the folks that have supported them as well. The Boy Scout' Camp Barstow I believe set up a place for some of those crews to bed down. And JCs Outdoors was running a shower house and cooking food, etc.. Great organization and great small business involvement!

Just another example of "Small Town America" getting it done. I have nothing but praise and good things to say about the linemen who work in this country. They have a very tuff and dangerous job. Thank you Linemen.

111,984 in NC and 20,896 in SC without power.

Which leads me to beleive there isn't much left they can do as they simply can't reach places without power at this point.

Hats off to the line works. They've done Yeoman's work the last 10 days in the Upstate and WNC and Tenn.

I don't think the emergency crews do "last mile" work.

There are bunch of isolated places in WNC where a problem may only affect a few houses and it could be a long time before they get power back.

There has been an encampment of them at I85 exit 27 for two weeks now.

They have been running all over town fixing the damage. I imagine the majority of them are heading south this weekend for what could be catastrophic damage in Florida. I hope everyone is smart enough to get out of the way of this storm. Sadly, some will not.

A business associate from the Walterboro area told me earlier

that he saw a large convoy I-26 eastbound toward I-95 south, presuming they were heading to a staging area in Florida.

Meanwhile, a cousin in Texas sent photos of another long line heading eastbound on I-10 through Houston, thinking they were heading for N.C. They, possibly, could have been heading toward Florida.

Very dangerous job, you can't see the leak. Lines could become live at any instance.

I'm in Greenwood today and they are every place you look. Shopping center and school parking lots. Even saw some electronic signs at businesses that say "Thank You Lineman" which is nice to see.
