Let's look at actual results. In the last 40 years clemson still has 2 NC..UGA zero. And.... Ritch is better than Kirby.
2002.. uga finished season ranked 3rd and 4th.. USC was 5th with a worse record so I think UGA would easily get into the CFP if it existed at the time. They would of had to beat USC or Ohio State and then Miami to win. Probably would have won 1st rd and made it to the NC game but Miami was really good that year. This would be their best shot.. I think they still lose and are runner ups.
2007.. they finished 4th in both polls but VT was right under them at 5th with a better record and conf champ. So who knows if they get in. LSU was in and beat UGA so I think VT would get the nodd.
If they did make it in at 4th they would have had to beat oklahoma and Lsu.
Now let's look at the reverse..if Smart was in the BCS. UGA highest ranking has been 3rd. They would never make it to a BCS NC
So Mark NC games.. probably 1..maybe 2.
Kirby NC games.. zero.
National Championships =0..
Clemson would have made it to 4 BCS NC games 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 ...and still won 2.
Probably should just stick to the SEC is so much harder argument and leave the BCS vs CFP alone.

I never said the SEC is harder (you're suggesting that it isn't, though?), but rather that we don't have enough competition to control our own destiny. There's no such thing as an easy schedule, but there are still only 4 spots.
I've been explicit about this, but it shouldn't be up to us anyway. It shouldn't be up to Clemson to schedule UGA instead of Wyoming on 16 months notice so we get to play a ranked team, or the ACC to make sure we get a bye-week team or one of the more competitive teams in the league or even Notre Dame; it should be equal for all CFP-ranked teams now that we have the first-ever singular ranking system in the sport's history
I'll listen to why the CFP rankings have been wrong, but IMO they've been remarkably consistent at getting the top-24 often enough to believe any top-24 matchup would be an easy & vastly superior game than the worst non-conference opponent on any team's schedule and that one game alone could change so much for us gaining better control of our own destiny, SEC opponent or not.

You're right, we did control our own destiny the last 6 years... eventually...
Controlling our destiny from the start is a different story (and not just to the CFP alone).
I'm not sure why you're upset with me about this, though? Again, I'm not saying it makes it easier for us or anything like that.
Instead, I believe our players are elite and deserve elite opportunities, but it shouldn't be something any elite team ever has to face now that we have the first-ever singular ranking system.
We can absolutely speculate who would be left out IF there were ever too many legitimate, undefeated contenders for the four playoff spots (never mind the Heisman no matter how many top picks we produce), but again, my point is it shouldn't happen to ANY team, and the reason why it bugs me is it seems to more consistently happen to us here at Clemson more than anywhere else, and it's a fixable problem.
Tell that to the lady at work for me & see what she says, I mean.

An undefeated acc champ has never been held out of the NC.. even in the bcs era... so clemson is in good shape.

I want to be clear about this, so let's assume you're right; there's no way Clemson is out of the CFP if they're undefeated.
You're right, too, that having more than 4 undefeated, legitimate contenders for the 4 CFP spots hasn't happened, & the likelihood of it happening is rare. Rare enough not to worry about it, to me, is taking the state of the sport for granted, but it's admittedly personal of course.
But if it happens ONCE, it will be the first time... and likely the last time. It would be a catalyst big enough to change the playoff, I think, similar to how we reacted to create the playoff itself in the first place.
Let's assume it's, say, Oregon left out rather than Clemson. We wouldn't really care, right?
If it was us, then what? I wouldn't just care; I'd be furious, & there wouldn't be anything that could be done about it.
But again, that's just the CFP. The Heisman is another story, but in spite of us not winning one I'm not sure anyone would argue we never had a player that deserved it, right? So what if instead the playing field was more even? Wouldn't that be great, and for absolutely everyone? Don't take my word for it; more people watch more of our games when we play competitive teams by nature, right? Last year we even got the most-watched game in ACC history. Replacing SC State with Michigan or Texas or any other CFP-ranked team could be enough every year, and for EVERY team (again, not just us, but that's why I care).

You keep moving the goal posts, ignoring my direct responses (apparently?) AND going off-topic, now you're insisting I don't love the Tigers?
Let me be real clear on this. The reason why it's relevant is because I DO care about Clemson, and the reason why that's important is because nobody else will care but us.
Make no mistake, the rest of the sport won't care if we're ever left out of an otherwise equal race (again, never mind the Heisman, but I am certain it bothers many of us for not winning one and rightly so in many cases). More to the point, even if they did care, they wouldn't be able to do anything about it; it would already be too late.
I am frustrated by it because it happens to us more than anyone else, and it's still and will likely always be a fixable problem.

But please, I'm trying to be fair, & I know we both can be; suggesting I'm not a Clemson fan because you disagree with a speculation about why UGA can't be title-competitive again certainly isn't fair, but it's definitely not Tiger-like outright. I've been going to Clemson games since I was in my mother's womb (with twins, and every game that season, too), so you could say it's literally in my blood, but let's just keep it fair & we're all good, promise.

I'm no troll, and I don't think him calling me out and creating an entire thread for disagreeing with me makes him a troll either. I know we're sensitive, but "TROLL ALERT"? C'mon, y'all. You don't have to agree, but you can at least see how my point of view comes from LOVING Clemson rather than hating it or being antagonistic; it's not like I'm here calling you or anyone else "absurd" or not a Clemson fan, for example.

Calling my posts absurd isn't exactly fair, either. Yikes. I never suggested you wrote it for me, either (?).
But for the sake of moving forward, you're right, I'm wrong, I'll swallow my pride and agree UGA wouldn't have won anything and it's silly to even suggest they could ever be title-competitive. We would have all our titles, CFP or not, and rightly so.
Still, remember the quote above goes back to another topic of whether or not a team could be elite in spite of not winning a national title in 41 years. It took us 35, so I don't think it was ever all that crazy to suggest UGA could do it. Hope this helps, and Go Tigers. Cheers.
