at the highest level after the injuries he suffered is a huge story. Ben Hogan-esque, even. Having undergone several back surgeries my own self, and being currently on the shelf because of it, I am pulling for Tiger to not only play, but contend, so that I can live precariously through him.
BS BS BS He's NOT a big story, he's a big media hype, and a person of low character, who, if not for the color of his skin would have been written off after the "wreck fiasco" with his then wife. CBS, and their commentators just multiply his popularity by MIllions. The ratings they say. Well they are right about that, because "players", not golfers, want to see the tournament, not Tiger. We will have to see every move he makes, the media would rather show Tiger going into the portalet than the leader sink a 90 foot putt on number 14 for birdie. When the golf came on TV this past weekend, Tiger was not even there and we heard his name mentioned a half dozen times in the first 30 minutes. Tiger was a great player, the best ever, NOT CLOSE, maybe 5th, possibly 4th best ever, but why don't they talk about Jones, Nicklaus, Hogan and Norman (MO, not Greg) were all better and the talking heads never mention them. I don't care who's leading, if Tiger does play this week, on Thursday and Friday we will hear the never ending Tiger did this, Tiger is putting for double bogy, and then when he hits a "low hard fairway club", we will have to hear Nobalo say, "He's hit the Tiger Stinger", like he invented that shot, after Tom Watson made a career out of "a low hard fairway club." So for golf traditionalist, just show us the great shots hit by all the players, the leaders shots that matter most, and should Tiger somehow get in the mix, show his good shots too. If not, just change the name from the "Masters" to the Tiger Woods show.
The pro golfers should demand that the "other" pro golfers get the same attention as Woods. Lets face it, Woods was a great golfer but why does he get all of the attention ? The main reason is because he is the first very successful black golfer and the T.V. networks don't want to be labeled as racist so they devote most their time to him. CBS is by far the worse network salivating over Woods. They mention his name continually during golf broadcasts. They certainly don't talk about Jack Nicklaus like that.
BBB and 2000, you have both swung really hard but missed.
Sure maybe Tiger does get a little too much coverage at this point in his career, but the truth of it is that he is still a ratings monster and Tiger's fellow golfers love when he is involved in a tournament because of the extra buzz it brings to the course.
Remember, your hatred for Tiger drives the buzz just as much as those who love to watch him play.
You seem to each have strong negative feelings toward Tiger Woods that clearly influence your thoughts on the subject, but Tiger returning and playing in the Master's after his most recent car accident is a huge story.
The cameras have to capitalize on the coverage while they can because I'm sure very few expect him to make the cut.
Beware! If Tiger does somehow make the cut then the coverage is going to go through the roof and what is going on now will seem small in comparison.
BS, you are what's one of the main things wrong with American liberals today. If anyone says something negative about a person of color, YOU, LIKE YOU DID HERE, immediately assume I hate Tiger. I don't hate him, he was a great player, the the GOAT, not a chance. That being said, my criticism is not of Tiger at all, it's about the media coverage he gets and "2000" is saying the same thing. But like all good "WOKE" folks you think anything negative to your gullible position is hatred or racist. Sometimes it's better to keep you mouth shut and let people wonder if you are stupid, rather than open it let them know for sure!!
Cute response. It's interesting that you went with name calling.
Interesting that you call me "stupid", yet you suggest my post is a blind liberal defense of a minority golfer on the basis of race when I never mentioned race in any portion of my response. Your reading comprehension skills are not what you think they are.
Associating me with "American liberals" or calling me "WOKE" is humorous. I'm guessing you haven't seen much of what I post.
The fact that I understand TV ratings and why the camera points in certain directions has nothing to do with political affiliation. If you want to blame somebody for Tiger being on camera too much, don't blame the media but blame all of the extra viewers who still tune in every time he appears in a tournament.
You also claim that your criticism is not of Tiger, and yet you criticized his character and his personal life with his ex-wife as though it should have an effect on whether or not the cameras follow him at a golf tournament. Apparently your recall is on par with your comprehension. Remember, you called me stupid.
The emotion in your post suggests very strong negative feelings toward Tiger and your response to me posting an explanation as to why he receives so much coverage makes it seem as if you project those negative feelings on anyone who disagrees with you. If you don't like the term "hate" that is fine, I will concede that you don't hate him.
Finally, I find that most people who choose to use that quote fail to realize some of the things that come out when they open their mouth.
I hope you enjoy Tiger Fest for the next several days. I don't expect him to make the cut if he plays so you shouldn't have to worry about it on Saturday and Sunday.
No, you started the name calling by insinuating that myself and 2000 were opposed to Tiger because of his race. My problem is not about Tiger, never was, it's about the special treatment he gets from the liberal Media to the detriment of ALL the other players. And yes, it's about ratings, but that doesn't make it right.
2000 is not my Partner, don't know him anymore than I do you. My point was simply like the coverage today by the Golf Channel's Today at the Masters. It's been 98% about Tiger Woods, it's never about the tournament when Tiger is involved, and not his fault, it's all about Tiger! Even told us this morning he MADE 5 STRAIGHT PUTTS FROM 5 FEET ON THE PUTTING GREEN! i don't have a Tiger problem I have a MEDIA problem. Sorry for any hard feelings, Go Tigers!
By the way, I'm not and 2000 is not talking about the upcoming Masters, it's been this way since DAY 1, with Tiger. Why doesn't Harold Varner III get this "color treatment", why didn't VJ Singh get this treatment. It's simply that the MEDIA, especially CBS and Golf Channel's talking heads, can't talk about anything but Tiger, even if he's not there. I think sometimes they must be blowing him.....
I remember a tournament a few years ago Tiger was 10 shots out of the lead on the last day (no chance of winning) but they were focused in on him like he was leading by 50 strokes. I think we got to see the other players after he finished and they interviewed him.
He is a media darling. Any other player or celeb that has the troubled past that Tiger has had would be "canceled" and forgotten and be forbidden to even show their face on camera again.
I guess it has nothing to do with the excitement and number of fans that he brought to the game due to his extraordinary play. What a pathetic and racist view to say it is based on the color of his skin. His determination and will to overcome his terrific injuries deserve attention and respect. What pro athlete, certainly one that was acclaimed at such a young age, has no transgressions? He seems to have turned his life around and his ex-wife has forgiven him. Listen to his daughter's speech at his HOF induction if you question his character as a father. Sad that haters gonna hate. I am pulling for him and will cheer a little harder for him, thanks to people like you. Meanwhile, sit on your high horse chair with a beer in your hand, watching golf, and judge away.
While only playing 1 tournament in 2021, Tiger Woods won the top spot in the PGA Tour's Player Impact Program which is awarded to the player on tour who generates the most fan interactions and interest over the course of the previous year.
The cameras are always on him because he moves the needle for millions of average people who are not diehard golf fans.
Drawing in the half in/half out fans is what every major professional sport desires and Tiger does that for golf.
Thanks for making my point, Tiger is for 'AVERAGE" fans, not Golf people. It's like KING JAMES is to the NBA. He barely got out of high school yet he speaks on National issues like his opinion, and it does, to people who "don't know they don't know"! Tiger is given more "Air Time" because of average fans and nothing more, $$$$ rules everything now in Sports. From the cheating portal, to NIL, to Tiger Woods camera time. It sucks, but that's the way the world is these days. Character doesn't matter. Just look at the 2 coaches who just won the men's and women's Basketball Championships. One is a known cheater and one is an Anti-American race baiter, but guess what, they like Tiger have followers who don't give a ###* about anything but results.
You got all upset and called me names, just so you can agree with me about why Tiger Woods is on TV so much.
We do differ in being upset that Tiger is on TV so much. I'm not a huge fan of his, but it doesn't bother me when he gets air time. I like when golf gets extra buzz and for that reason I am ok when people's eyes tune in to see what Tiger is doing.
I'm not concerned with tuning out an athlete because their checkered past has been discovered because there are likely many more athletes that I like to watch who are just better at keeping their dirty laundry hidden.
I also completely agree with you about how crazy it is that people listen to anything Lebron James has to say about anything other than basketball. He is of course free to talk about anything he chooses, but I'm not sure why people think he has any knowledge of world issues outside of bettering his financial and celebrity status.
Low character… we all have been there at one point or another. He has apologized and hopefully learned from his mistakes.
When someone else wins 82 times and sniffs 15 majors I assure you they will get this type of media attention.
I do not believe this has anything to do with the color of his skin. People love a guy that has been on top, hit rock bottom and become great again.
Money… if not for Tiger Woods there would not be the current purses they play for today and his peers including Mickelson will or have admitted it.
I am hoping for fair coverage but after his last year and possibly being done I understand the love fest. CBS is loving life. If he plays viewership just exploded.
I love a lot of our current young guns on tour but unless someone becomes the man and I mean win more than 8 majors and wins multiple tourneys in the same year the media will naturally gravitate to the top 3 most popular golfer that has ever lived when he plays. The average fan probably couldn’t name 5 other golfers.
There hasn't been another "Tigerlike" dominant player since Tiger because he inspired an entire generation of golfers to train their bodies and their minds to be ready when things get tough so they could either be like Tiger or try to beat him. This has created an entire group of guys that essentially cancel each other out in terms of somebody taking over the sport again.
This is also the reason that he no longer intimidates the field whenever he is in contention because so much of the field is now much more physically and mentally trained to handle those type of situations.
