Whilst enjoying my morning coffee on my balcony, I was watching our neighbor attempt to clean a second story window on an extension ladder, and she nearly fell off......and this important lesson came to mind. Happy 4th y'all!

That fall pic makes me sick b/c

At age 75 I fell off an 8' ladder standing up on the 7' step with no support..and was tired from cutting palm branches for hours with a heavy 10' extension pole with a saw blade attached at end of it..
and on the very last branch I couldn't reach the Palmetto palm stem without stretching so to saw it and when it fell, the long stem part fell towards my face which made me jerk my body to the right..
And the faulty hinge on that side of the borrowed ladder released and down I went onto the concrete driveway below..
With me extending my right hand out behind me so to cushion the blow thus falling straight onto my buttt which caused me to bounce 1 foot off the driveway I'm told but luckily didn't have back of my head hit. Still, my right wrist was broken in multiple places and was moved over several inches snd useless..
And the impact on my buttt & back caused a Vertibrae to be impacted & compressed (aka broken back)..
While my rotor cup & right elbow were affected but not broken.
This set me back time & $ wise, caused me to lose 2" in height..and over the years since 2016 I have had to fight poor posture via exercise and awareness. Saying, even from a 7 foot level a fall onto concrete can be life changing!

At age 75, a fall of 2 feet on hard surface can be fatal. THE NUMBER ONE cause of death for the elderly are falls. I know of several elderly friends who fell and hit head on an immovable object and dies as a result.
SO, if you are an old codger like me and my friends who are still living, be careful walking and DO NOT do anything that could cause you to fall.
Did the OP say the neighbor almost fell off ladder in that picture?

Knew a man that fell and hit his head off a 6footer and killed him. I don’t mess around anymore when dealing with ladders. Pay attention and take my time.

The fall never hurts anyone. It’s the sudden stop. The older we are the longer it takes to heal.

I was just on a 12' ladder doing the same thing last wk. Using a pole saw and cutting palm fronds. I set the ladder where I could wrap an arm around the tree. I almost fell once as I was super hot, staring up so long then quickly looked down to watch frond fall and I got a serious dizzy spell. I had to do a double reach for the tree to stop my full tilt.
I took a long break with some Gatorade to get mt dizzy spell settled. Thankfully no crash.

My dad has a saying about ladders and heights that has served me well as I approach my senior years…never get your ### higher than your head.
But men (especially) are stubborn and prideful, underestimating the loss of balance and reflex, while overestimating their abilities. I know this applies to me.

The nice thing about being old is that I can afford to pay someone to do the dangerous things.

A gentleman who had worked for me fell from a ladder after he retired and the fall took his life. Air Force veteran and very key to the team of managers that I had at that time.
I think about him every time I climb a ladder.

Have heard of several fall stories where man has fallen off small foot ladder or countertop in kitchen replacing a bulb or cleaning ceiling and mate found him dead from injury to head/face after striking a sharp counter edge, etc.
Saying, please be aware TiGERS when dealing with heights!!
