KNEW I'd be hearing from you.
While I still say 99.9% chance nothing like that happens, I'll admit the move is a little strange to say the least.

It's petty at best, and feels a bit like high stakes trolling, which is beyond ridiculous if it's the case.

If an enemy does not do something stupid in the next two

months, we only have covid to thank for it. Because I'm not sure there's been a better time for someone to do something stupid on the other side of the world in my lifetime, than right now.
Know your enemies, and know yourself. Russia wants Trump reelected. That weakens the US, and they know it. It weakens NATO. China wants Biden to win because they know that creates stability, and China is connected to the hip with the US economically. As it stands, China and Russia have both won in their eyes. As such, I'd look very hard at Russia to take advantage.
China/India is still a huge potential powder keg, and Iran is sitting there salivating.

Even if Trump doesn't have something sinister planned and he's just being as petty as he can before he leaves, this is opening up a really dangerous window for those countries you mentioned to start misbehaving.

Economic stability. That's what they want.

China's interests in our election are economic. Russia's interest is military in nature. Russia wants NATO weakened, and their republics back. China wants economic power and are not in the land-acquisition game as much. China wants a stable money-spending US to buy their cheap crap so they make bank. Russia wants a broke US in a civil war. Two very different interests among "enemies". China has seen the way to expand power and influence is through economic prosperity. Russia has never known any way to gain power than through traditional land acquisition and military might.
The guys who study and know this kind of stuff, are the ones being fired/resigning, as mentioned in the article. Of all the departments in the US government, you want the military to be the one with their heads on straight. "Yes men" are what Trump loves and surrounds himself with. And those types are NOT what you want in charge at the Pentagon. AT ALL.

It's not Republicans or Democrats. It's the Secretary of State referring to Trump's second term in Imaginationland. This is, as far as I'm aware, unprecedented by any top official in any party. (Other than Trump obviously.)
