He was third in number of carries for the first two games so he can’t say he wasn’t given a chance. I guess to move up the chart would require to much work! We wish him well. There is probably three more guys ready to contribute.

What it is, is reality. He is built to run the ball, I believe that he knows that he is way behind in what a CU back has to do run, block and receive the ball. He just is, he would be unable overtake the backs ahead of and the ones coming in are already ahead of him due to HS coaching. Wish him well, but he better learn to block and realize that in college you cannot outrun everybody.JMO.

He's said it is due to his grandfather's passing and wanting to be closer to his family .

Seems like he'd have used this "free" eligibility year though. Dumb.
Sometimes these 5 star rbs seem to be divas or prima donnas or something. They can't handle a little competition. We seem to not have very good luck with those kinds of guys except for CJ of course.

Sounds like a perfect B1G, Bama, USCjr. recruit! Run it 25+ times/game and get hurt and/or curtail a pro career before you even leave college!

That is disappointing. He was certainly not the one I expected to be transferring and why now after only 2 games into Freshman season of all times? There must be something else going on behind the scenes.
We will be fine, but I was extremely excited about his future... oh well.

A 5 star player was 6th in line for carries against The Citadel for pete's sake. I told my buddy while we were at the game this was going to happen. The coaches dropped the ball on this one. At least play him at KR or something!

He told me he learned quickly that everyone on the team was a High School Hero and it was a much more competitive game at the college level.

In high school, I was among the top players in the Region and the State.
When I got to Clemson, I quickly found out that EVERYONE on the team was a terrific high school player. Now all of a sudden, you're on a team where everyone has speed and really good skills. Going from being among the best to being an Average Joe was eye opening and very humbling.

Maybe as a true freshman on the best team in the country with a loaded backfield he should be patient??? Especially since we'll lose ETN, Rencher, and maybe Dixon (NFL) plus 1 or 2 transfers at the end of this season.

I honestly never thought he would ever play a down here and was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. Hate to see him go but its not like he could have expected to walk in and get 20 carries a game. Having said that, theres got to be a reason he was played in the manner he was against the Citadel. Doesn't really seem like a 5 star RB should be that deep on the depth chart. No idea why he wouldn't just stick out the season and then transfer if he was still unhappy instead of taking his ball and going home two games into the season. Says more about his mentality than anything else.

Wow. Bowman has the tools to be a great running back at Clemson. His high school film is amazing.
One can assume that he expected more playing time in the first 2 games. However, any kid should know that they need to learn and fit into the system before being the lead back.
He intended to be an early enrollee in January. But...reports I heard were that he fell short of graduating from Lakeland FL High School in December. He was not hear for spring and summer workouts which put him behind our stable of capable backs.
The loss of grandparents is difficult for a lot of people. Clemson can be FAMILY, but he may just want to be closer to Mama. Wish he would left our great coaches help him with the homesickness that he is probably experiencing.
I hate it for Clemson and hate it that Bowman reached this decision.
The Tigers are deep. We will be OK. Peace and good luck to the young man.

I THINK THE COACHES COULD LEARN FROM THIS, POSSIBLY. IF LYNN BLUE IS NUMBER TWO, I WOULD GO WITH THE FRESHMEN OVER A SENIOR, ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL, FOR OBVIOUS REASONS AS NUMBER THREE. I'M NOT SAYING THE SR. ISN'T DESERVING, BUT PERHAPS YOU BRING IN 5* GUYS AND IN GAMES LIKE THE CITADEL AND WAKE WITH BIG LEADS, I WOULD THINK YOU'D GET THE BLUE CHIP GUYS IN AND MORE OFTEN, TO SEE WHAT THEY HAVE TO OFFER. Absolutely heartbroken for this kid. I'm sure the coaches and players tried everything they could to change his decision. He's probably not thinking clearly due to his grandfather's passing. Hopefully he will come around. Entering the portal doesn't mean the end.

I'm guessing this isn't football related, because a premiere running back at the college level should like nothing more than a great O-line to run behind and a limited number of carries per game, so the body isn't shot by senior year. it isn't like he won't get drafted. And it isn't like someone is going to burn a high draft pick on a running back. So it's something else going on.

No football player, or any athlete for that matter, wants limited carries or limited action so they won’t be worn out later in their career. Players want the ball, and they want it a lot.

I wish D. Bowman and family nothing but happiness and I pray for some comfort as they go through the passing of a senior member of the Bowman family.

You wonder however if in his mind, "no way T. Etienne is there when I get on campus"! He committed to Clemson May 3, 2019.
The early lack of playing time and all may be motivation is all I am saying. I had a close cousin that lived 3 houses down from me pass away my freshman year in college. At the time I was a S. Carolina kid going to school in Connecticut. Did it make me want to come back home - a little. But, I knew that going in - if a tragedy strikes I would be away. Guess and not saying this in a condescending way either - everybody grieves different. Much like Zerrick Cooper, Hunter Johnson, Chase Brice, Richard Yeargen, Scott Pagano, etc. Not really T. Feaster because of where he went - but nah, I wished him well except one game. I will follow this kid and hope he does well wherever he lands.

I hate to see him go but everyone always thought he was initially going to Florida. However, he appears to have been very close to his grandfather and made the decision to bypass Florida and come to Clemson largely so his grandfather could see him play. Now, with his passing, he appears to have no family nearby and the motivation that brought him to Clemson in the first place is now gone. Couple that with the fact that he probably has been homesick, he can transfer now without losing a year of eligibility, and given how loose the NCAA is with waivers, will most likely be able to join Florida next year.
It's too bad but I wish him well. Sorry it had to be under these circumstances. Fortunately, our RB room is full of talent and more coming on so I feel good about the future.

Hate to see this. Special talent. But - You have to be all in, 100% committed, to succeed in any college sports program. Whatever his reasons - if his heart isn’t in it, wants to be closer to home, he needs to find another path. The Clemson coaches get that. Wish him well. Tigers will be just fine.
