One might have been on target to start but he might also have known that someone was on the team who would be able to take that job a few games into the coming season.

I mean Kelly Bryant did this less than a decade ago, it isn't a totally new thing for guys to leave a team mid-season and "take a redshirt" in order to save eligibility and go elsewhere.

better hopes of more playing time. I submit that none left because they wanted paid or a raise in pay.
I believe the primary reason that hasn't happened is because Dabo just doesn't recruit those guys who are simply looking for a place to workout on their trip to playing on Sunday. If you don't let those guys in you don't have to worry about them leaving you without. Imagine how those other teams' fan suffer when some of their better players leave with little or no notice.
The more I think about Dabo's way of handing the portal the more I like it. He can let guys know that their playing time is diminishing as others grow into their positions which doesn't made Dabo look like a bad guy.
I remain firm in my belief that if a kid comes here and shows Dabo that he's doing his best Dabo will see that he graduates before he leaves. That's integrity, folks and it hasn't hurt us yet.
