I watched some film of him in his prime some time ago. Better all round player than Jordan or Lebron for his first five or six years, then really bad knee injury slowed and eventually curtailed his career. This was when they had to slice up the whole knee. Amazing athlete with incredible stats before injury. He could do it all, pass, shoot, dribble, drive, defend, and rebound on both ends. He was doing the "Euro-step" on his drives and fast breaks in the early 1960's. So much for Harden and the boys inventing it, lol!

He wasn't a better all around player than Lebron and wasn't even close. He isn't in the conversation with either.

That was one tough nosed basketball player back in the day. You young guys really missed out on some "real" basketball back in the 60's and 70's. Back then, players played and coaches coached. Their salaries were high but not completely stupid. It was just better team basketball than the primadonnas of today..... in my opinion.

Back in the 70's I knew a driver for RC Cola whose name was Elgin, it said so on his RC uniform shirt. I found out later his name is Jim, just a huge Elgin Baylor fan.
A great player on a great team. RIP

Elgin Baylor was a great player when I was just a very small chap

He reminded me of a huge stump that couldn’t be moved back when you touched someone who had the ball it was an actual foul. Yet as strong and physical he was he still maintained a finesse about him on offense. He was a great rebounder, defender and shooter and those three qualities are pretty good ones to have. However he failed to “sleep” with as many womens as Wilt Chamberlain
