Just found out something disturbing about pistachios.

That one nut that tastes burnt and gross contains a naval orange worm. The worm isn’t what tastes bad. The protective barrier is broken when the larvae burrows in and bacteria and fungus invade the nut. That’s what causes the burnt, dirt, nasty flavor. 🤢

I wish you had stopped your explanation after the first sentence. I am ok with eating a Navel Orange work once in a while, but I am not real keen on eating the bacteria and fungus. I just thought it was somehow burnt. In fact, I think I will stick with believing that and remain in denial... :0)

Fun Fact on pistachios:
Like other members of the family Anacardiaceae (which includes poison ivy, sumac, mango, and cashew), pistachios contain urushiol, an irritant that can cause allergic reactions.

I have to admit that I drink a lot of mango juice, but cashews are another nasty tasting nut that I don't partake in eating!!!

Now that makes me very glad that in my lifetime, I've only eaten one of those nuts to know that I did not like them, and I've never eaten another one!!! If you had said that about boiled peanuts, or Brazil nuts, I would have to admit that I've eaten a belly full of bacteria and fungus. But I probably have with other products, and my system has become immune to it!!!

Some things are better off not knowing. This is one of them but on the flip side I have eaten a lot of larvae and worms so my immune system should be strong.
