Jamesis Winston

How do you think Venables will gameplan for him?
Alot of his passes were of the 7-8 yd variety ...
I know its based on one game, but the kid is very accurate, and their WR's catch the ball.
I think our corners will have to play press coverage and the safeties play in tight.
He doesn't appear very mobile so if our secondary can hold in there, the DL might have a good game.

I think Venables will do what he always does. Gap integrity and bring pressure from a variety of blitz packages.
I loved how he dropped Crawford into coverage last week. Brilliant timing on that one.

bit of his game. I think the same is still true though.
Bring the heat and maintain your gaps. Do not over pursue, stretch it out if he runs, do not let him break containment.

Maryland may be his only real test before us

So I have to think a big part of Venables strategy will be to make him see things he's never seen before. If you get into his head early you can do a lot to affect his confidence. Of course, our secondary HAS to keep improving. FSU last year and so far this year eats up yards in the air a lot more than on the ground and some of their better runners are gone like Lonnie Pryor. They still have Wilder I think, though.
But so far Winston shows he really likes to throw.

I'm confident our DL will do pretty well

FSU's offensive line was much bigger than Pitt's defensive front. And they said Winston is slower than Manuel, who wasn't that fast to begin with. So I think we'll be able to handle him pretty well. They won't hardly be tested before facing us, so I don't think he has any idea what he's in for in death valley.

This is what excites me the most. Go from a bunch of creampuffs to playing in front of over 80,000 raucous fans in the Valley, and having Beasly breath down his neck all night.

He didn't have much pressure on him the whole game

Look for his composure and concentration to be tested against any team with a pass rush.

Lots can, and probably will happen before that game is ready for kickoff. Let's worry about things we can control right now. Otherwise we could go into that game with two or three loses and it will make no difference in the season. Regardless I have 100% faith in the Clemson coaching staff. Don't you????

Pretty much the only thing I can control is the TV channel.

My post was not directed to you but to all those who are already concerned about FSU. I hope that you are not one of those fans who grabs the remote when Clemson gives up the lead!

I don't think I've seen him play enough to know. I'm pretty slow when it comes to evaluating a QB. I don't know that much about football.
After three games I'd get back with you. I know that D he played made him look up to his billing.

He looked pretty dang good for a freshman. He's going to get his plays in. If we can keep those receivers in front of us till the field gets short we may be able to trade field goals for touchdowns and maybe pick a few.
