I've heard the following ideas for recruiting.

1. Use the portal, but don't pay incoming guys as much as you are paying guys who are already on the team.
2. Quit being outbid by other schools for HS players, but don't pay them as much as you are paying current players on the team.
3. Use the portal to recruit blue chip guys who enter the portal (QB, WR, especially) but don't get into a bidding war with Texas or Ohio State or Texas Tech or others. Don't overpay for highly sought after guys in the portal.
Are any of the three even plausible, much less possible?

Honestly at this point college NEEDS a super league. They need to standardize pay, benefits, recruiting, and transfers in a model with similar more transparent framework to the NFL.
The current NCAA framework is essentially allowing the wholesale purchase of championships with little to no restrictions on how teams do that. I think this is something that is turning off lifetime viewers now, but if continued unchecked will create too big of a gap between 4-5 teams and the rest of the programs around the country alienating their fan bases along with it

Bottom line is you cannot alienate all but 32 to 40 d1 schools and expect to keep the same viewership. CFB is honestly going down the toilet quickly. I have already stopped watching all CFB outside of Clemson. Could not give you any in-depth analysis of other teams where I used to watch so much I could.

I don’t watch as much as I used to either. But if I’m not watching Clemson, I now kind of prefer to watch “lower tier” teams because they are usually more evenly matched.

The Super League will happen when the networks, ESPN & Fox Sports,

and their partners and employees, the SEC and the B1G, have settled how they wish to organize and control the Super League. Clemson has earned the opportunity to be part of such a league, but right now Clemson is the tail on the dog, and networks and the SEC & B1G will set the terms and framework to their benefit.

Dabo doesn't bid on players. His top priority is quality character then talent and potential. Bidding on players eliminates the character factor due to money being their top priority.
I think those entering the portal who have desirable talents are most probably looking for a raise. I seem to remember something about Dabo not talking money with a recruit until the NIL was signed. Maybe I'm wrong but that seems to be one of the issues which eliminates so many from our recruiting board.

Yeah well, that's why we're sitting at 3-4 with a dwindling shot at a crappy bowl.
Dabo has put the shackles on himself with all of his we won't do's with recruiting. Meanwhile everyone else does everything they can to land quality football players.
Let's take a run on a few roughnecks and see what happens. If he's that good at molding and making men let's see what he does with some players with an edge to them. This choir boy stuff has to stop.

Could college football be heading in this direction?
5. Don't recruit high school kids at all. They're overhyped, untested and just want the money in said bidding wars. Portal only - guys that can play, but don't have the starting gig where they are. DII, DIII and Jucos that are proven players looking for a shot.
Sounds crazy, but is it really?

I think right now alot of our slide has been caused by perception

The perception that Dabo hated transfers I think was used to negatively recruit against us and it was effective. Even though Dabo said he wasn't against transfers the media ran with the other story. I think these kids don't even consider Clemson when they're looking to hop or they are leery of Clemson thinking they'll be treated bad if they transfer in.
Somehow Dabo has to flip that narrative. There needs to be some moment where a transfer shows out in a game and DAbo gets on the TV after the game and makes a big deal about it. Somehow he's got to get a viral moment to change that stereotype for the player. I don't know the ins and outs or the financials so i don't know if any our offerings are that much different from the other guys but I do know we have a perception problem... b/c i hear it EVERY time someone brings up Clemson's woe's this season.

I believe we need to face reality. It is Free Agency not recruiting. That’s reality. Proceed from there. It is no longer amateur athletics.

How about we use all of the recruiting tools available to us as part of a roster management program to identify and go after the best candidates to fit our needs for whatever we are willing to pay.

If they are not going to start or at least make the 2-deep, we need to not pay them squat, and wait until they shine elsewhere and then cherry pick them as juniors or seniors with $$$. The hit percentage is just way too low on kids out of high school to throw big money at them. They need a year or two in the minors before we call them up to the show. The age of player development is over.
