Remember the beer bashes on the Y beach in the 70's?

Can't remember what they were called, but they'd have 30 or so kegs daisy chained together. You paid like 5 bucks for all you could drink and brought your own milk jugs to fill with beer. They hauled in a flat bed trailer and bluegrass bands played all afternoon. That was the first time I ever saw the Zassof Boys.
After the beer bash there was a dance in the Y barn - the Bengal Ball.
Good times. Good times.

Before my time, but those are memories I'd like to have

There were a few events with a similar vibe but far smaller scope when I arrived freshman year in '87 but nothing like you describe.

Oh yes. Great music and lots of suds. You could easily identify those of us on Monday with our burnt skin and grins!

Yep, it was held in late April toward the end of the school year and was usually our first time out in the sun.

The whole event was called the Bengal Ball

I still have a couple of t-shirts from the early 80's. By then the technology had advanced to refrigerator trucks with taps on the side.
Raising the drinking age killed this and the Friday beer gardens they would have at East Bank.

#### Childs Guitar Army!!!!!!!! Those guys could play.
Loved Bengal Ball. I had friends come from all over come stay with me in Johnstone that weekend every year. Cured me from drinking draft beer. I still have some of the souvenir cups. Good Times.

Bengal Ball was organized by GDI. It was a fantastic party at Y beach in the spring. Bands, beer, and bikinis!

Worked at East Bank (now the rowing facility) in the early/mid-80's when they would pull the beer truck up, slap on the taps and called it a beer garden.
Ahh ... the good ole days!

...about 30 friends from high school came up and we all went to Bengal Ball. I put up about 10 of them in my apartment. (That year Clemson accepted more freshman than they had housing so kids were staying in Littlejohn and all over the place. I had to get an apartment.)
I think the ones going to USuC were jealous of the Clemson experience.
Good times!

At some of the beer gardens WSBF would play the tunes.
They set up a Bud truck near Schilletter one afternoon.
Food fight ensued in the dining hall as the spoons clanged against the glasses.
Great times and fun - About $5 would get you all the beer you could drink.

Mission Mountain Wood Band

One band that played there at least 2 years in mid-70's that I remember was the Mission Mountain Wood Band from Montana. While at Yellowstone about 10 years ago, I was at little town in Montana adjacent to Yellowstone. My family was in a bar/restaurant that had a great jukebox, and they had a song on it by the Mission Mountain Wood Band. I asked the owner what became of that band, and as it turned out, two of them died in a plane crash in the early 80's.

I remember seeing them! I also saw the Zassoff Boys several years later in a bar in my home town of Newberry. Sadly, the founder and his son, Bill & Jerry Haney, have both passed.

TRUTH.
One of them (at least) actually had Doug Clark and the HotNuts as performers. This of course was back in the day when ye olde legal drinking age was 18. Strange how the drinking age went up, but the voting age stayed the same.
