Really good coach with a good bead on things. I always felt he had good instincts. However, I am a little worried about DJ. I really hope he has his head in the right place this year and does well but I'm nervous after last season. Last years offense was kinda hard to watch.

Were you in full support when Stout started over true freshman DW4 and when KB started ahead of true freshman TL?

I havnt had any issues with Dabo's instincts but last year left me scratching my head. I'm not sure I wouldn't have pulled DJ. He was way worse than either of the 2 you mentioned. I thought KB was a really good QB TOO. Probably not as good as TL but I was never sold on TL. He is a good QB but I don't believe TL is near as good as DW. I expect TL will probably end up as an NFL backup at some point for most of his career.

I completely understand ... and I wondered the same thing. However, the QB cupboard was bare last year and if he had pulled DJ, we probably would not have had the same record we did.
There is value in having a "Big Time QB" at the helm even though he is not having a good year. At least it kept the opposing defense a little bit more cautious because of his prior year performance - albeit just two full games.
In sports, if you're not moving forward (DJ), you're falling behind, so you'd better be improving or you'll be sitting on the bench more than you want to be.
This year is totally different. The QB room is full and they're all chomping at the bit to get on the field. Klubnik showed a LOT in the spring game besides his play. He was in serious discussions with the coaches and players while he was on the sideline. He doesn't seem like he's the type to just sit back and let things happen .. he appears to be heavily involved in maximizing his, and his teammates' development time.
THOSE are the qualities of a true leader and I have no doubt Dabo will make a transition to Cade this season if/when DJ fails to perform at the level we need, and the time is appropriate.
Plus ... Cade will have had a whole spring, summer training, and fall camp to develop before it is we even see his improvement. And IMO, he will be a whole level up from what he showed in the spring. I'm looking forward to it.

Re: We didn't have a viable option behind DJ last year

This is the part of the story very few people want to acknowledge. We did not have a viable candidate behind DJU last year. TP was a decent change of pace but he was not an upgrade. And the "fanboys" that thought Hunter Helms deserved a shot based on a couple touchdowns against a horrible Georgia Tech team in 4th quarter mop up duty really need to watch more football. The good news is this year the back up (Klubnik) is a viable replacement in the event DJU is not performing up to expectations. Heck, Johnson could probably also step up and win some games in a Cole Stoudt game manager situation.

I'm really pulling for DJ to have a great year.
It would benefit everyone.
I don't think many people argue over his talent. Maybe this year the coaches just cut him loose and let him play, and see if it will all work out.
In the 2 games that he filled in for Trevor he just seemed to be so relaxed...I would love to see him get back to that comfort level.

Honestly I usually forget about the whole TU/TD thing so I don’t normally do a lot of either. If something just really jumps out at me or someone says something that reminds me I might remember to do it. If I TU something it’s usually a very positive post. I stand guilty as accused of being an old guy and as such, not always the quickest on the tech stuff. And I really struggle with how to post attachments and links and that kind of stuff.

Because you seem to think Dabo is infallible so we are not allowed to question a single decision on a message board which was designed to debate the issues of the day. Here is a clue for you. A fan can question a coach's decision and not be a bad fan plus said fan can still support Dabo who makes way more good decisions then bad decisions. But there are a few stinkers here and there which is true of every-single-person walking this earth

My opinion is my own and I have as much right to mine as they do theirs. AND since DJ is making so much cash now, a little criticism probably isn't unexpected.

You respect Dabo, but you think he missed on this recruit (DJ)? You respect Dabo, but he should have started someone else? You respect Dabo, but a head coaching decision led to poor QB play? You respect Dabo, but he did not adequately prepare DJ? You respect Dabo, but he did not adequately develop DJ?
Are you thinking that "Hey guys, I'm a little nervous about our offense after last year's performance" is something that is a unique or bold stand? When you start with your admiration for Dabo "but"...you're implying that he is/was somehow deficient?
We've added two "five star recruits" since last year's issues. One a steady-handed veteran who knows our team and the other a potential replacement if he can get up to speed. Not sure what else Dabo could have done?

Everyone is nervous for DJ
Jul 15, 2022, 11:49 AM

First game last year with UGa, I thought he did a decent job. The INT was everyone's fault, including coaches. Hey it was the soon to be National Champs... give credit where it's due I guess.
It was the games after that where DJ was hard to watch. He was clearly rattled in the first game, and it carried on into the rest. Add in all of the injuries and it was perfect storm. But hey, a 10-3 season wasn't too bad.
Boy that NCS game still is a hard one to take. We should have caught that ball at the end of OT.
This year, we are in a much, much, much better place with a Veteran Back-up transfer, new kid 5 start recruit, and DJ.
With DJ, it's...all...on...him. I have a hunch that the other two will press for playing time and a short leash.
Go Tigers!

I trust Dabo and the coaching staff

In rewatched the SCAR and ISU games from last season. DJ looked more decisive and did a nice job running the offense. I think this was in large part due to improved online play. Despite this, the offense was still one dimensional largely due to inconsistent WR play (remember that Will Swinney was a starter) and DJ’s inability to throw accurately down the field.
I am not confident DJ’s accuracy will improve, but I am confident WR play will and this will be good enough to get to the ACC championship game. If this looks in doubt early, I think we will start to see Cade ease into the offense or Hunter take over. (Don’t sleep on Hunter Johnson.)

The ISU game was painful to watch. Barely 300yds of offense

No points in the fourth quarter. Horrible interception by DJ late in the game. He has a knack for keeping other teams in games with mistakes. If not for the pick 6 we got we may very well have lost that game. If their NFL running back would have played, probably a different outcome.
The Spring game was more of the same from DJ. He's a game changing mistake waiting to happen at all times.
I don't think we make the playoffs with DJ this year. Hopefully, Cade can establish himself before the NC State game in week 5.

I watched that game again recently, and he did not look good. However, I don't think DJ was as horrible as everyone says in the Spring game.
I am holding out hope that our staff can either:
1. Coach-up DJ
or
2. Get Cade ready as soon as possible
Either one of those things can get us into the playoffs with our defense.

But you'd be blind not to see that DJ struggled with the simplest throws last year even when he had time.
At the same time, and when you're the most frustrated, he'd make some spectacular play.
Bottom line is that he has ability. I am hoping he figures it out this year. DJ is a Tiger and we all should hope for the best for this young man.

That is true. I remember seeing Shipley headed to the flats where it looked like he had lots of room to run and the ball comes over his head or so short he has to stop to come back to it or fall down just making the catch. And I also remember some drops that had me shaking my head thinking “what if”?. Y’all know I’m not real big on the blame game, I’m just hoping they figure it out this year.

Something I can do better at if I am honest.
As I said, he has the tools, and we also have a really good coaching staff. I really hope DJ proves me and everyone else wrong!

some concerns. As we all do.
(I know, "however" is kinda sorta like "but").
But, I'd rather be a Tiger than, however, a gamec0ck.

Dabo had to stick with DJ last year because there was no other option. I thought he handled the TL and KB situation really well. I disagree about TL I think he will be one of the greatest of all time. We will see.

I don't post much on here but I did want to get in on this conversation lol . 1st. I think DJ is a good QB what happened last year all come from the 1st game after the loss I think DJ blamed himself and I personally think that affected the rest of his year and a leader can't do that. Now GA thinks they won by like a 100 points but there offense wasn't no better that day because they did score either ?? lol. I do think if DJ is not together in the 1st game vs GT Dabo will pull him and try Cade just my opinion. Lol
