Amazing how you could copy/paste their excuse from 2 years ago and apply it to today. It’s almost like the problem isn’t the money, and it’s more about the in game execution (or lack there of).

I think I'm going to make it my life's mission to explain why you shouldn't base a season's success (outside of the super elite, i.e., seeds 1-2, possibly 3) on the NCAAT. The loss to McNeese was disappointing; however, it should not overshadow the regular season. The NCAAT is the worst possible way to crown a champion. Basketball is a sport that is subject to fluky outcomes, hence why the NBA utilizes series (and other sports subject to fluky outcomes like baseball).

Making the NCAAT is the goal. That's it. If you win a game or make deep run, all the more fun. Again, this is outside of seeds 1-2. If Duke, Florida, etc. aren't playing this coming weekend, their season could be seen as a failure. This also holds somewhat true for programs like UConn who is coming off back-to-back titles and had a disappointing year. Arguably, their season was a failure even though they made the NCAAT.

Way too much emphasis is placed on a tournament that bears no resemblance to the regular season or the nature of the sport.

It's not a matter of losing in the first round of the NCAAT...

It's the manner in which the team lost and was a glaring example of how lousy the team has played over the last three games.

Nope. Again, the nature of basketball. It happens. It's why the NCAAT is bad at crowning a champion but very exciting.

It's a historically bad performance.

Worst half in the history of NCAA tournament.

Laying a historic turd in the opening half of the first NCAAT game after a record season doesn't just happen. Sorry. You may be onto something with the whole tourney and getting a champion, but being so ruthlessly underprepared, lacking any cohesion, making zero headway on adjustments or lighting a fire until 5 minutes remaining - doesn't just happen. We lost to a not great team because we played like absolute warmed over ### until it was too late.

We lost by 2 points.

The point is that we lost to a team we should have beaten. Period.

I agree about us not playing up to our standard the last few games of the season. I was concerned about our struggles from three toward the end of the season. I don't know why that happened, but it was our downfall in key games in the tournaments.

19 points off 13 turnovers in the first half and nearly ten minutes without scoring a single field goal. I wont even get into how badly an experienced/veteran team with a HUGE height advantage got destroyed on both the offensive and defensive boards. It was one of the absolute worst performances in NCAA tournament history. The team actually showed up for about 5 minutes of a 40-minute game (i.e., 12.5% of the whole friggin' game).

But the game is 40 minutes and we lost by 2 points.

You and others wanting to dwell on the first half when we played like crap and disregard our gusty second half comeback are being unreasonable.

I don’t know anyone who wants to “dwell” on the first half. Most of us either wish it was a bad dream or would like to forget about it completely. But it happened. 13 points in a half and another 13 minutes of very similar play to start the second half. Being unreasonable is denying that it was historically bad and cost us the game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So we won the 2nd half?

That makes me feel a lot better. For a second there I thought we lost both halves. That would have been a major let down.

Some teams step up in the tourney and this makes it exciting .. others, a step or two back .. it is exciting watching the other teams that come to play ..

I mean nowhere in my post did I say this season wasn’t a success… I think it’s pretty clear it was.

My point is that the McNesse game was just another in a long line of bad losses, and as these bad losses occur the rhetoric hasn’t changed.

I actually don’t hate Judge, and they certainly don’t live rent free in my head. If anything I appreciate the concerns they’ve raised around basketball funding.

I just find joy in calling people out for their bias, and lack of common sense… This was just too good an opportunity to pass up.

You spent time and effort to go back a few years through their posts so you could ding them online... I just don't get spending time/effort like that unless you hate someone or they consume you that much. I'm not a Brownell fan nor am I a Judge Keller apologist, but this was too good an opportunity to pass up...
