It’s just about buying players!

You not only have to pay big to bring in players, but you have to pay big just to keep players. The higher the bar is set the more costs will spiral out of control.

Sadly it’s been about this for 3 or 4 years while dabo has been trying to build. Loyalty hasn’t been rewarded. FWIW he’s right and this short term immediate gratification stuff will have some tragic outcomes.

The good teams do both. Thé build through recruiting and add some with the NIL. You need cash to be the best though.

^^^^^ this is the limiting factor^^^^^

One addition to your statement: The ‘cash need’ is relative, not absolute. The ability of one school to raise more cash than another school will dictate which program will keep trending upward and which team will trend downward.

Sooner or later players have to be trained. HS players for the most part are not ready to play on a daily basis the day they show up at College. Moving from one team to another also slows down on their progression and development. At some point the folks in the portal will not be a good addition to a Staff made up mostly of portal players.

True. But with all things being equal, would you rather have a 4 star who is 21years old with some experience to be your starter or 2nd string backup? Or an 18 year old 4* with no college experience?

Hey, this is the last chance for some of these guys to make money off a sport they love. Can you blame them really? Coach can make 1@ million or whatever, why can’t I make some money too? I’m good enough to play college ball,but not good enough for the pros. Sign me up coach and put me in.
