That will cause even more problems for both players and schools. There will be no stability at all anymore.

Sigh.... totally agree. Why even pretend to be about education any more. I'm good with players being able to transfer if a HEAD coach is fired or leaves without a penalty. I'm a realist enough to know some players are committed to a coach not a school.
Even these portal windows are a joke. Why do we even have the NCAA anymore?

NCAA is trying to create as much havoc as they can. They know they will have no seat at the table soon so torched earth is their response.

Ahhh, for the love of...... Just get on with it and declare transfer eligibility at any and all times. Let them transfer in the middle of the season and play immediately. While you are at it, give each player a bank account that any and all people can just dump money into. Oh, and going to class is no longer a requirement, just strongly advised..... What a bunch of friggin pathetic screwballs. Its like watching a monkey try and screw a football

If the big schools do break away
Jul 21, 2022, 12:08 PM
[ in reply to Time For the Big Schools to Break Away from the NCAA ] |

it seems to me it will be an environment there would be less regulation of the the issues of concern. The break away will be about money. I don’t think the new environment would foster a greater commitment to education and loyalty to a school (or staff for that matter) for student athletes.

You may be right in that the "new environment" would be all about money. But, I'm not so sure that it would mean less regulation or restrictions of the topics at hand. With NIL, the players (at least the high profile and brands building ones) are going to get their $$ no matter what. Placing some strategic regulation of transfers would allow the schools to protect their investment, (time, money, resources) i.e. recruitment, of those student athletes. Academic standards should certainly be woven in but that would probably be a low priority, sadly.

What entity chooses NCAA leaders?

HumbleServant - I agree with you 100%
That's my take as well.
I would also add could it be a ploy; to show people how chaotic things can get w/o their oversight? Just another conspiracy theory.
With some of what's going on in CFB; I can easily see a scenario where schools who want to break away from the NCAA and enter the mess that will become "can do so"!
Everybody else will go back to some form of "more rules and regulations" that can possibly still include NIL deals; "but regulated NIL deals"!
How long will big boosters just give away millions of dollars to their favorite school or alma mater? There can only be one and every school has big boosters! The Yankees do not win it yearly despite often having the largest payroll.
I can envision HumbleServant a world in which Clemson and some other schools who don't compromise certain values - are in what's left of the NCAA! Clemson could easily be the NCAA National Champion and crowned the best amateur football team in the land! Meanwhile, those schools that break away due to the money grab would get crowned by their governing body. Clearly, everyone won't be able to get included in that "new entity" conference. Small markets/small schools probably will have no need to apply. Clemson demands attention now; but what happens if we do not have a generational organizer like Dabo years from now? I mean, Clemson is going to be fine. But, will we be fine after compromising to chase big money. Which has yet to help Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, Northwestern, Nebraska, Iowa, Maryland, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, SCAR, Rutgers, Ole Miss, Miss St, etc. Much like the different division system in place today: You would still have your FBS teams and FCS teams who are okay with playing "By the rules"! Not popular opinion; I get that. But, how sustainable is it going to be? Texas oil money! The huge TV markets and eyeballs of the Big 10!

that should always be made internally between the coaches and the players.
If a kid wants to redshirt and the coaches disagree, the kid either plays or he quits. It's just that simple.

If Kirby can advertise how many & much their players are paid & now they can transfer to get paid without penalties. They are destroying college football right before our eyes!
It would be better off if we were in a league with some solid rules and leadership that actually benefits them getting and education they can do something with because only 2-3 % will ever sniff pro football.
They aren’t going to make enough money to cover their lack of education 4-5 years down the road in my opinion.
On a side note I saw on Tigernet that a Wolfpack forum guy said Clemson & UNC were SEC bound!…lol

The NCAA did this to preempt losing in court. Players that take advantage of it aren't worth a dime.
Carry on. Nothing to see here.

This will likely help to keep Clemson ELITE!
Jul 21, 2022, 2:49 PM

... like Dabo said, the more chaos there is in college football, the more Clemson will benefit.
Think about it ... we have a stellar program that develops Men and helps them earn a top education. There are a whole lot of players that are NOT short-sighted and WANT that in their lives.
So the players that will want to come to Clemson will be the same as we recruit now ... intelligent, driven, education-focused, disciplined young men that want to achieve the high goals they have set for themselves.
And there are only so many spots each year. Clemson can operate "as usual" and choose the top players that are committed to excellence.
GO TIGERS!!!!

A player doesn't have to literally enter the portal, they can just fake injury and stop playing any time they get a bag of money from their next team, then officially announce they are leaving when its allowed. None of this will make any difference whatsoever in players doing whatever they want and/or getting paid to leave one team for another mid season or any other time.

I also know people might say; "well, the schools in the pay league will just use NCAA still schools as a development league"! This is likely, but that's where there should be some type of new stipulations put into a commitment. If you can. Why you can or can't; I have no idea. But, seems like there is something that can be done. Maybe some form of re-payment of the money the school pumped into their body/nutrition/mind/scholarship! Since they are now employed and left the contract premature. Unless the coach leaves - at which point the whole team can transfer. I have always thought kids should be able to do that; but only if the HC or position coach that recruited them leaves!
It will never happen!
I know that.
But, to me when I saw the joy the App State and James Madison and North Dakota State players have after winning the FCS title - it cleared up the notion that it's less important. Being the best at your level is a lot. The very best college team isn't beating a bad pro team! Not when many of those teams will never sniff an NFL field because they aren't good enough. The 1A team that wins a State title feels like they are the kings, period. They don't care if the 3A or 5A players feel the same way! Each group has a right to say: they are the best in their class! I really see it heading that way - the more this cookie crumbles and schools who don't have enough $$$$$ behind it are left out. Moral of that is: "it wouldn't bother me a bit if Clemson kept being NCAA FBS National Champions"! Even if a: Texas, Texas Tech, Michigan, Ohio State, and Southern Cal aren't a part of it. Went off on a narrow lonely road; but a bit of structure and attempt to keep it as fair as possible puts more stress on how good things like: "the education is, the coaches are, the environment is, etc. for recruits"! People go but HillRock - they are talking about if they break away from the NCAA they won't have scholarship limits and they would gobble up all the talent. To do what though? Sit? If you want to pay people to sit and not earn their money just buy a Popeyes franchise! But, you can't sustain paying back up to the backups big money. At least, enough to not put any film together for the NFL! In short, despite this ruling and some others, I think Clemson will always have a niche place in CFB. It's a unique place and has a proud history even pre-Dabo. I can't stand the way things are going, but hopefully Clemson is that silver lining in CFB.
