the year (retirement was supposed to be last day of December 2013), I, and five others out of the 32 who had taken early retirement packages were informed that we had to hang around an extra four months to "train our replacements".

did not WANT my job. He had specifically been brought in (his words) to take my BOSS's job, and then they gave it to somebody else. So, he was not a happy camper, by any stretch.

I HIGHLY recommend retirement to anyone who asks.
Instead of waking up thinking of Dabo or Brad, I wake up thinking “How did I ever get anything done with just nights, weekends and holidays off?”

You know this I’m sure, but make sure you have something to keep your mind and your body going. I have seen way too many people retire, do nothing, and die. Sorry if that sounds morbid.

I'm only 61 and I'm always busy doing something. It will be nice to have more time to get things done that I don't have time for now. The wife and I are already planning our first two trips after retirement. The first trip "post retirement" is to take our son to England/France for his Clemson graduation present. The next trip will be to Yellowstone and Grand Teton.
We just took a trip to Greece and Venice.

You will be fine. I had several people telling me they were worried I would be the guy Downunder described because I worked 55-60+ hours a week my whole life. I retired in January and this year has flown by. Did some hiking in the spring, we went to Alaska in June, and I’ve been playing golf once a week and hunting once or twice a week. Spending time with grandkids and if I don’t have anything else to do I go to the gym up to 2-3 days a week. I’m doing more of the cooking - I love to cook and my wife hates to cook so that works out. There is plenty to do and it doesn’t have to all be expensive travel although a little if that is nice too.
Need to get OJ to start you a countdown. And don’t let anyone talk you into staying.
