Apparently the bitter (D) locals near Columbia tried to derail it, but $100 million has been budgeted for a Veterinary program at Clemson via the state budget approved yesterday. Those Coots will be thanking us after they get some of their heifer wives treated by our future grads.  ">
"Senate Finance Chairman Harvey Peeler, R-Cherokee was pleased after he convinced his peers in the House chamber to give Clemson over $100 million to establish the state's first veterinary school."

actually existing in the first place, saying the state did not need a second state supported college. The measure to actually charter Clemson College passed the State Legislature by one lonely vote.

Hard to believe a historically agricultural school like Clemson has never had a vet program, and that there isn't even one in the state! There's no better place for it than Clemson. My daughter has wanted to be a vet - maybe we'll be able to get her in there and continue the family tradition of Clemson grads! Anybody got $30,000/year I can borrow?

$30K/yr sounds low. Based on first hand knowledge of Vet schools, I am pretty sure that out of state tuition, room and board, and incidentals cost more than twice that amount per year.

My how times have changed. When I was coming up a Vets focus was on cows, hogs, mules and horses, cats and dogs were an afterthought. It's the opposite now.

USC-Greenville is Clemson Med School. Most med students there

come from Clemson or out of state. Quickly becoming the best med school in state, if not already. Far better than USC Columbia Med School.

when she graduates from here at Up U next May her plan is to start a masters in animal physiology until the Vet school is up and running. She can't wait to be in the inaugural class.

Vets are definitely needed. The Equine Vets we use just stopped doing emergency visits due to a shortage of vets. To provide full service they need 4 full time Vets and they are down to 2 and can't find replacements.
Now those students from SC interested in being a Vet won't have to pay the out of state tuition to UGA or Auburn.

With the announcement of the Clemson “elevate” initiative and this Vet School addition, I believe this will be enough for the B1G to bring Clemson in with a cluster of other Southeastern ACC programs that are already AAU credentialed.

+1 for the heifer wives. Hope this means they have confirmed large animal specialties. Clemson is an agricultural school after all.
