Why is TCU still #2? They are clearly not the second best team in the country.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Does it really matter?

Jan 10, 2023, 8:02 AM

Are you gonna sit here and be mad that Ohio State didn't finish 2nd?

This is the second straight year we've finished out of the top 10. That is downward trend. Winning a weak ACC title is nice but it didn't enhance our brand. Getting boat raced in the Orange bowl exposed the program.

Next year is a pivotal year for Dabo and company. Another non-top 10 season makes us an Oklahoma State type program

Agree, we were not top 10 these two years, but we will be back next year!
Our offense has been weak the last two years, and we have the talent to improve.

13 is painful, but probably about right after our loss to Tennessee.
FSU ahead of us, and in the preseason rankings. We need to fix that in Death Valley on the field!
We need to ball out on the field next year to get back to the CFP games!

Georgia is top dog this year, not on our schedule for 2 years.

Go Tigers, Great Year in 2023!

SECPN has Free Shoes in top 5 and us at 15... just sayin.

You didn’t mention the slip of the defense. From top 5 in every category to top 20-50 in every category except maybe one. Too many explosive plays given up and plain out bad fits. It’s talent on offense mixed with coaching. On defense, it’s all coordinator. Stats don’t lie. We won’t be back next year. Unless we hit the portal. Too late. All the studs are gone and guess where?! FSU. We struggle to win the ACC next year.

You can't hit the portal Clemson is 3 scholarships over the limit already with all the players coming back. There is absolutely no room on the roster for anyone in the portal!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

One might call it cycling out.

Clemson finished.

I agree that our downward trend is both relevant and concerning. It's going to become a vicious cycle that's tough to pull out of here soon.

Re: I was talking about who finished 2nd, not about where

Jan 10, 2023, 9:16 AM

The loser of the Natty always finishes second. It’s maths. It’s how every playoff in every sport works. Lose the championship game and you’re 2nd. Simple process. Ohio State sucked and didn’t deserve the playoff.

2024 student level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ohio State had the 2nd highest ceiling of any team in CFB

Jan 10, 2023, 10:10 AM

this year and they showed that when they played Georgia*.

*I'm not arguing they should've finished 2nd in the AP though. I couldn't care less about that.

The talent is there….need coaching changes at OC and DC.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah that’s pretty laughable. It’s obvious Ohio State is by far the second best team.

On their home field! Day is still complaining about the refs, weather, moon…….

TCU got caught in a buzz saw for 60 minutes.
We got in an LSU buzz saw for the last 40 minutes, but it we had a lead after first 20.
Dabo could have buzz sawed Alabama in 2019 , but ran the clock out in the 4th quarter.

It is simple. In the history of every playoff in history regardless of sport, the loser of the championship game is ranked second. Why is that so hard to understand. It’s called a playoff. Last two standing. You question the sunshine?! Lol

Again, they made it to the finals.

TCU beat Michigan, which had already beaten Ohio State. It doesn't matter that the final was a blowout. TCU made it to the game. They're #2.

Beat Michigan who beat Ohio State, pretty simple.
Georgia played their best game, TCU their worst.
Ranking is for season and CFP.

Oh yeah, and Ohio State missed a field goal to win too.

Yep.......just wait until the 12-team playoff.

Won't see any blowouts at all.

All the complaining will cease.

Won't water down the regular season at all.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You're missing the point.

Jan 10, 2023, 10:50 AM

There will always be the potential for blowouts, no matter the selection method - always.

The blowout you saw last night was the result of selection based on opinion; opinion, granted, that (supposedly) took into consideration conference championships, but were also influenced by all sorts of biases and questionable assumptions and perceptions.

That's one way to do it, and it obviously, as a matter of record, does not avoid blowouts or mismatches. But, there is another way - let it be earned on the field, with the goal being rewarding the winners, winners, on the field, of conferences and divisions. Stop rewarding those teams that "experts", who are proven dead wrong over and over and over and are highly susceptible to bias and media influence, believe are the "best". Stop pretending we can know which teams are "best"; it is proven over and over again that we don't and can't. Let's just let teams play, and reward the winning.

So, no selection system will eliminate blowouts, but blowouts are not necessarily a bad thing, as long as they are part of a process of elimination that rewards actually winning games and advancing until a legitimate champion is determined.

Jan 10, 2023, 9:23 AM [ in reply to This clearly demonstrates, why all polls, as well as any ]

The playoff has NEVER been based on polls. I’m daft, the committee doesn’t consider the polls in seeding. It’s body of work.

2024 student level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The CFP rankings is a poll, for God's sake!

Jan 10, 2023, 10:33 AM

The playoff is based off of that POLL, and the OPINIONS of those on the selection committee. That fundamentally flawed concept resulted in the BLOWOUT you saw last night.

I know some will say we should be ranked higher than FSU bc we beat them, but it’s how u finish. We had a good year but there’s a great gulf between us and teams like Ohio State, UGA and Bama…..not in talent but in coaching. There’s not a nickel’s worth of difference in talent if u look at class recruiting rankings, but a huge difference in performance…that boils down to coaching. This is not negativity, it’s just fact.

Re: TNET: Clemson's final AP Poll ranking released

I would definitely have ND in front of us. They beat us and SC. That’s my opinion.

Not going to ##### 13 with the play of our last QB and questionable reasonings behind why we seemingly abandoned the run game when it showed to effective. Not sure we beat ND but SC definitely and unsure on Tenn. We threw 56 times against Tenn not a winning strategy if you ask me.”

FSU played great at the end of the season and put up some quality wins.

Even though it was an early season game, they also get credit for the win over LSU.

No one really cares about ‘history’ because it has no value on the present and future.
The question is, ‘Did Dabo learn anything from not starting Cade after the Syracuse game?’
If Cade had game experience in those remaining games and DJ on the sidelines, Clemson WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE PLAYOFF and possibly even the championship game.

Well this should be a wake-up call for Clemson. Will see what Dabo will next year (maybe early spring). Will he be the stubborn Dabo that was loyal to a player and now maybe extremely loyal to an OC or will it be a smart Dabo and make change(s).
