A little overrated? They have lost 9 times, so that pitching staff isn’t invincible. Their ace actually looks like he’s already getting roughed up a bit in the 1st against Pitt.
And also, can they handle the pressure of being in that #1 spot overall, as they have been most of the season. No #1 team has won the CWS in a long time. Think it was Miami.
I just find it hard to imagine that their pitching will stop a team like us completely. Once Clemson does it to them, they may completely lose confidence and go off the rails in regionals. It’s the effect we seem to be having on people from our nightmarish hitting.
Wake isn’t regularly at this level, I don’t see them sustaining. Whether it’s in the ACCT or not.

And Wake has been rising in the world of college baseball for the past decade. WF saw a sport they could excel in and chose to fund it.

Look at their records in the last decade. They’ve made the NCAA tournament 3 times since 2010. Besides very recently putting money into good facilities, there’s not much there.
Obviously good this year, but I’m saying I don’t think they have the right experience yet. And especially with Bakich having excellent postseason pedigree already, we’ll see.

I get what you are saying (they are not on some type of Vandy run or anything). But they have been funding MLB pretty regularly the past decade. They have had some great years, and continue to rise and rise year to year. They went from a joke to a power in 10 years. Mostly due to WF taking the program seriously, and realizing they could compete in the sport of baseball (the Vandy model)
If you think they are overrated this year...you simply don't know baseball. I don't know what else to say.

I don’t think they are overrated at all… they are the best and most consistent team in the country. They have a great pitching staff, hit like .300 as a team, and I believe have hit over 100 hrs also. They are legit… post season everything goes out the window, you catch teams that are hot and playing well. I think they def make it To Omaha but once out there anything can happen.

WF is LOADED. All 3 of their weekend starters are projected 1st or 2nd round picks. Not to mention at least two more 1st or 2nd rounders coming out of the pen. They are top 3 in team era and runs allowed.
Lowder could get drafted and be on a MLB bullpen by the postseason. He's that good.
Their offense is also top 5. You don't often see the #1 pitching team in the NCAA also have a top 5 offense. Thats a scary combination. Their plate approach is very similar to ours. They don't strike out often.
Does that mean there invincible? No, it's baseball. Anything can happen and teams can get hot in the post season. Ask Tennessee and ND last year. Tennessee was easily the best team all year, but they ran into a red-hot ND team and lost in the Supers. (I still believe Tennessee's bad breaks down the stretch were Karma for the way they played the game and their slimeball coach.)
