Once the denials and/or evasiveness stop, then the beating will be due for cessation. Until, then, the beatings make plenty of sense.
That said, the news cycle will eventually turn over regardless. But as long as the horse is squirming around, there's no sense in acting like it's dead when we all know it's not.

It's not about enforcing morale, it's rather about not kissing the ring of those demanding everyone genuflect to the conventional wisdom of the coaching staff.
But like I said, the news cycle will eventually turn over, so it is what it is. The dead horse doesn't HAVE to be beat. It's not a necessity, but it's not inappropriate either.
