is a big get. He was a target of ours, but we must have dropped out early.
They beat us on the field this year because of the portal: Rattler, the tight end and Wells. Other people will be doing so soon. Florida State is making a living off of the portal. Three of their five offensive linemen last year were from the portal. Dabo will have on choice soon. Losing so many to portal and early pro, and trying to catch up with freshmen. Can't sustain that.

Not who Clemson did not get. More who SCu got incl. QB. In one year, SCu went from another lopsided loss at home to a major upset and 30 more points on the road.

Have any of you ever thought maybe Dabo is going after these portal guys but they aren't interested in Clemson? Everyone acts like we can just snap our fingers and guys will jump out of the portal and onto our roster. It doesn't work that way. Most of these guys already have deals lined up with other schools and the portal is just the link between the two.

Just to play a little bit of devil's advocate, if you were in the portal and you know how strongly Dabo feels about those players and how he favors playing his own recruits, is it any surprise that those we are trying to recruit might think they are better off elsewhere?
I'm not saying this because of any favored opinion about the portal; I'm just pointing out that we don't exactly roll out the red carpet for these types of players.

This is also a very good possibility,but I would think if a coach that doesn't usually go to the portal goes there for me,then there is a chance I'm going to get to play. Also some may like the fact that if they work hard in practice they have a really good chance of playing in the games. With Cade at qb now,they may see some playing time in the third and fourth quarters unlike when DJ was starting because most of our games were close. J/K!

Generally speaking, I would agree with you but the problem I see is with the adamant and public stance we have taken against the portal, I can't help but believe it has a negative impact on some players we might actually choose to recruit. And you can surely bet that others coaches are pointing this out.

The portal is not the answer. It is simply a way to try and feel needs that recruiting and transfers leave open. I look at it this way,high school players are feeling the crunch with the portal as well. They are looking for a school that will commit to them for 3 to 4 years and not be bringing guys in to replace them every chance they get. It works both ways I guess but we will see. Again it doesn't mean we aren't working the portal. Maybe just maybe the big names aren't coming to Clemson because there is no cash guaranteed.Most of these high profile portal players already have deals with other schools in place.

The portal is a quick fix, and not sustainable if you want to win championships. Good recruiting classes over 4 plus years is how you build depth at position. Our 2's are 1's for other schools. These portal programs have no depth or culture. Culture and depth at position is what wins championships. Portal programs will compete but not at the highest level.

Setting Carolina dn FSU as the standard we should aspire to is a mistake. We're better. And they really only beat us bc of one position: QB.
