He does have a veteran #2 QB from the 2017 class, the #1 QB for 2020 and 2022.

potential in that room unless Cade is a plug and play type stud. He doesn't wow you physically so there will have to be some maturation before he's "ready" for primetime football. Unless he's just one of these gamers that the switch just gets turned on. DJ is good to win some ACC games but against a good Defense he's a liability. And then after that.. i guess he's talking about Hunter but is he really going to be any better than Helms? I think we're all hoping CAde gets it quick and just can move the ball. ITs going to take time to get the speed of the game. Just hope we don't drop a dumb game early due to our ineptness at QB. I'd almost like to see what Hunter could do over DJ. I think he can run half way decent.
But on paper from high school rankings.. 100% best QB room he's had. From on the field Results.. its just not. I feel Dabo is just being encouraging here and trying to get these guys some confidence.

El Tigre 1Did freshman Deshaun Watson (or Joe Montana) overwhelm you with their physical stature? Accuracy, mobility, and ability to read a defense & audible are much more important qualities at QB than physical stature.
Hunter is not currently on the team. And he was a complete bust at Northwestern. Cade is the QB who gives Clemson the best shot to go undefeated and to the playoffs. That is asking a lot for a freshman. But IMHO the other QB's lack the attributes to take Clemson to the playoffs.
You make a good point; the other QB's are more prone to drop a dumb game early.

No deshaun did not have size as a freshman.

Which is why i qualified my statement by saying "unless Cade is a plug and play stud" (alluding to a small handful of QB's in the past who just were gamers early on (namely Deshaun Watson)). My point is its a tall order (irrational) to expect that from Cade just b/c Deshaun was that type of guy...and if he is.. we'll know it b/c it will be undeniable. What woudl be a bad deal is if we threw an 18 year old out there against college defensive players lookign to tee off on a freshman and then get the kid hurt or gunshy b/c he was thrown to the wolves too early.
But if he's a deshaun type personality/player then you'll have to pry him off the field to get him to come out. Which if you remember.. that happened to Deshaun his freshman year. But i feel that was the right decision to play Deshaun b/c his play was without doubt head and shoulders above anyone here. There was no comparison.
I'm also not comparing Cade to Hunter. I'm pitting Hunter vs DJ. Probably the same QB that will yield similar results but we've never seen Hunter play at Clemson. Maybe he was in a system at Northwestern that never fit his skill set. Maybe he flourishes. The fact that he won't be here until the fall is a downer for that happening but i would have liked to see it. But both of those guys are seasoned, alot of experience, and they're physically adept to the college game.

I think our early schedule sets up well to give our offense all of September to get going.
I expect our defense to smother all of the September opponents. Hopefully we are firing on all cylinders by NC State.

I want to see DJ win it, because I want his little brother. But I think if DJ doesn't keep the starting position, if it's Cade, Hunter or Johnson, I would suspect DJ will hit the portal after 1 quarter on the bench.

If DJ hits the portal, and he prolly will if benched, he will have lot's of baggage. His ranking from last year as one of the worst QB's of 130 FBS quarterbacks is not a selling point. Put that with him being replaced by a freshman QB, and his stock as a portal QB is not going to be very high on a major college's radar.

Cade played against the top high school competitors in Texas. Texas high school football is the real deal. No one should judge him based on the spring game.

No one should judge 2 months into the program with the play calling in the Spring game and Cade's top receiver hurt.

You are correct. My bad.
I just don't understand how this room is as good as any room with deshaun and TL.
You have hunter johnson, who didn't perform well in his entire college career.
You have DJ, who was one of the worst starting qbs I have seen for Clemson last year. He didn't Seem to show improvement in the spring game. I hope he can improve a lot between then and now. Dabo talked DJ up quite a lot last year as well if you don't remember.
Then you have Cade, who looked pretty good during the spring game. I really hope he is as advertised. We are going to need him this year.

Will only know how good Cade is,when he puts on the Clemson pads and plays a real game -- that's the only way DJ proved he was not the same as the DJ that came in for Treavor in relief 2020 -- maybe Cade is the next ""generational quarterback"" like we all thought DJ was going to be ??? Which QB will lead us back to victory lane ??? ___________________________ tune in to TigerNet,this fall, for the rest of the story**** _____________________GO TIGERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Helms going to Manning camp invite, must be D1 material.
DJU was #1 Pro Passer, looked great his freshman year, if he gets close then he will be pretty good.
I heard, true or not, but 1 off Clemson's assistant coaches said CK is the best overall true Frosh that he has ever seen. I sure hope that is true.
Then we have Hunter Johnson coming back and he should be able to win any of our season games just by being a game manager. 5yrs in two quality D1 programs, 5* out of HS, played a lot of ball but has an interception problem, he sure should be able to walk a good team through the ACC.
I think our QB room could be the best if DJU turns the corner.

Deshaun Watson has 4 CFP starts and 3 CFP wins and 1 CFP loss. _______ _______
Trevor Lawrence has 5 CFP starts and 3 CFP wins and 2 CFP losses. Kelly Bryant has 1 CFP starts and 0 CFP wins and 1 CFP loss. _______ _______
DJ has 0 CFP starting experience or wins. Cade has 0 CFP starting experience or wins. Hunter Johnson has 0 CFP starting experience or wins.
** Numbers do not lie. This is the 2nd season in a row that Clemson has a QB room with a zero QBs that have > 0 CFP starts. It's hard to understand how this is best. Especially after the Spring Game performances.

We have a QB room that has three guys who were rated #1 QB coming out of high school by some services. That is not an opinion. Now, does that mean its the best room ever? I think the one with Deshaun, Nick Schussler, Zerrick Cooper, Tucker Israel and Kelly Bryant was a pretty darn good room. Also Trevor, Chase Brice room was solid. Still, if these guys can be dialed in it would be a monster group.

He’s pouring out kool-aid.
I’m not bashing him or saying it’s wrong but that’s what it is. It’s the head coach trying to build up confidence in that group. It’s Coach Swinney’s mentality on life. A half full cup kinda of approach. He sees the positives instead of the negatives.
It will be very interesting to see how the season plays out at that position. If we get excellent QB play we can capitalize on that D Line and we have a great chance of making the National Championship (barring many injuries) if we get average QB play we’ll probably have two losses but still may win the ACC. If we have below QB play than we’ll probably finish with 3 or 4 losses.
I believe the ACC is a a better conference this year from top to bottom. Actually, I guess I mean the Atlantic Division is much better from top to bottom. I don’t know about the Coastal yet but the Atlantic Division should be much improved and there’s some games that will be very tough to win with “average or below average” QB play.

has lead Clemson to 11 consecutive 10 win seasons (3rd in NCAA history), 7 ACC championships, 6 playoff appearances, 4 finals and two national championships. Dabo is legendary has accomplished more in the last decade than a whole plethora of coaches combined ever have over 120 years at USuCk. No amount of your trolling will ever change that.

The only Hunter that will see the field this year is Helms not Johnson in mop up time. Dabo made a brilliant move bringing Johnson in to be a legal sideline coach while Streeter's up in the booth. If Johnson had any aspirations of playing time he wouldn't have waited until the summer to enroll. He called Dabo to be a GA coach and Dabo obliged. Dabo always has a plan.

Clemson fans have too much of orange shaded glasses on. Hunter Johnson was not good at Northwestern. Lol at any fan who says would win every game on the schedule by managing the game. Same thing with Galloway from BC in basketball. Shooting less than 30 percent from the field is not going to do it for a reliable player in the rotation. Johnson was an OK kind of pick up for just some depth in a balanced qb rotation. But still wish they had saved that Galloway pick on the two big needs an experienced PG and big wing ala David Collins.

No way is it close to the talent level of prior QB rooms we have had.
The only argument for the current QB room being his best is that there are more QBs in it than we tend to have.
Honestly, this just seems like Dabo being Dabo and overhyping.

What do you guys expect? The head coach to say something like “yeah we’re just ok at qb, not like before when we had deshaun and trevor though.”
I’m sure that would do wonders for our qb room.
No the coach is going to talk up his players and convey to them through public praise that he has faith in their ability to lead the team.

Saying that it’s as good of a QB group as he’s ever had is uncalled for, and to be honest, not grounded in any sort of reality.
There is no point in making such over the top statements.

I had a coot tell me the other day if he could see them win one national title, he would be happy with them winning 6 games the rest of his life. Dabo can say whatever he wants. He’s earned the right. Thank God some of you aren’t coaches. His job isn’t to please us, he’s loyal to his men.
