I don’t know the criteria used or any background on this but saw it posted by the city of Clemson. Lexington, Hanahan, and Goose Creek kind of surprised me.

You wouldn't think Lexington being #1, with it's proximity to cooterville!!!

Lespaw, I grew up and still live in Lexington zip code. We’re not perfect and unfortunately we’ve got a lot of coots who ride our coattails. But we’re loaded with Tigers too. We have our issues but I’ll take Lexington over cootville/Richland county any day! I worked on that side of the river 2/3 of my life. Thank you God for letting me be a Lexington Wildcat!

No surprise that many of the Top 10 cities are also the wealthiest and most educated cities in the state.

20yrs ago Goose Creek nor Hanahan would have been on list. Hanahan has been completely rebuilt from people wanting to be close to Daniel Is. and Mt. P. but not paying the same prices. Goose Creek has some pretty rough areas especially close to naval base but GC has annexed 100s of square miles the last 20yrs. All these areas were mainly upper middle class or country folk with lower crime rates. Im sure this helped offset the shady areas of GC.

I am kind of surprised Summerville isnt on the list. Its mainly upper middle class but there has been a pretty sizeable drug ring of blacks and Latinos that have taken over a big area in older Sville apts near Sville HS. There are shootings in that area quite frequently which Im sure hurts the stats.

I gotta laugh because seeing Hardeeville....what metrics were you using? Maybe there is just less specific crime they were accounting?

I used to live out in Bluffton/Hardeeville up until the pandemic and while I thought Bluffton was fine, [it has more activity going on there than you'd like from a crime standpoint], but could probably still be a top 20 town for safety. However, Hardeeville was definitely known as the sketchiest place nearby.

Central being deemed safe kinda invalidates this.

The area police are too busy arresting college kids for underage drinking and weed to have any data on the actual crime going on around there.

well, yeah, the "crimes" I mentioned are just illegal because of the place and time.

The majority of this board was able to drink beer while in college and my dad always said if you can fight and die for your country you should be able to enjoy a beer.

Weed is also legal/decriminalized in the majority of the country and is a proven better alternative to alcohol.

I live in Lexington and the crime rate is very low. The traffic sucks, but I never think about crime.

I’m guilty of, like some others, assuming that its proximity to Columbia would cause it to share in some of that city’s issues. Glad it doesn’t.

I used to live in Mauldin. I’m kinda surprised that Mauldin made the list too. Heck they put a sign in my childhood neighborhood about how you should look out for burglars. It was a creepy looking sign too.

I live in Lexington. It's not perfect by any means and has it's problems in sections. But you ride a few minutes down the road to Richland County? My god...shootings every single day.

Central and Walhalla residents might be surprised to learn they live in a city. You might
say the same for Clemson expect for 7 Saturdays a year.
