He's in a bad situation up there. Mendenhall left under unusual circumstances. According to an ESPN article he had been considering retiring for a while. Now Elliott has to pick up the pieces of Mendenhall leaving and the campus shooting. Not to mention to changing landscape of CFB in general. That's a lot for a first time HC to navigate. By all accounts Tony is a good human but I'm not sure he's equipped to handle everything the avalanche in Charlottesville is throwing at him.

I think he will get this season and either all or part of next season to turn it around. He's making ~$4m/year and his buyout is $8m, reduced by $2m each season.

continue to get in their own way more than any other team you can watch. They kill more of their own drives than the opposition does, seems like. They have a real lack of discipline and situational awareness. This is really surprising, since Dabo always said Tony Elliot was the most painstakingly detailed coach he ever worked with.

If they start winning a few games, due to the extraordinary circumstances around the team with the shootings, he MIGHT be given one more year. But, even that is debatable at this point in time. His leash is getting shorter and shorter.

The overall lack of success of Dabo's "Coaching Tree" just points out to me how unique he is. His style works for him, but apparently does not filter down to his assistants, at least as translated into wins and losses.
