In listening to comments about, and watching our baseball team over the

course of this year, or our sports teams in general, I am reminded of the comment President John F. Kennedy made many years ago, following the disastrous attempted Bay of Pigs invasion in Cuba.
"Success has many fathers, but failure is an orphan."
Never was that more true than in sports. Fans want to jump on the bandwagon, even slap themselves on the back for their contributions, when the team is having success. But, let even a hint of failure creep into the picture, and suddenly, the sniping starts, and some get on here, or other social media, hollering "FIRE EVERYBODY!"
I have been guilty of the stray comment myself, when decisions made just seem counter-intuitive, and they do not work out. But, there have been far many more times when those same decisions DID work, and we won. In baseball especially, over a long season, all the decisions will not yield the desired results. That is, as many have pointed out, just the nature of the game. And, there will be times the bats go cold, and the fielding is subpar. If all those things happen at once, things can look very bleak.
But, here's another thing about baseball. I think Kevin Costner said it in Bull Durham, but it is not a new concept. You're only in a slump if you think you are. If the attitude changes, suddenly good things start to happen again. One extra dying quail, one seeing eye single a month is the difference in hitting .250 and .300, he also said. Am I happy about being swept by Weak Florist this weekend? Of course not. But, this is still, regardless of how bad they looked lately, a Top Ten baseball team. All our goals, the ones that really matter, are still right there in front of us. We just need to right the ship, so to speak, get our heads in order, and get back to doing what we are totally capable of doing, once again.
I will be watching excitedly to see it happen. And, even if the result is what it has been every single season before, no national championship, I will have been treated to some very good baseball, for a whole college season. And, hope will still spring eternal. One of these seasons, sooner than later, Coach Bakich is going to take us to Omaha. And, when we get there, the results just might be different than they have ever been. Guys, this is only his second season. SECOND SEASON! The train is picking up steam. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can....

2 weeks on the diamond. The GT Series was tough but Tigers still grabbed 2 of 3 games and pitched well on that Sunday. Then UNCC game required a 9th inning comeback but Tigers got it done.
This weekend with WF seemed different. Team was rattled, did not look comfortable, maybe a bit fatigued. I am sure the season wears on them all, let us hope that is all it is and the team can rebound this week.
Baseball is a strange sport and these kind of lulls will happen. My main issue is giving up leads so often, and being forced to come back so many times it just will not work out well against better teams. Fix that single issue, and team can do big things.
Either way, love our Tigers and may they find the remedy to their recent woes. Go Tigers!!

Yeah, giving up leads late is totally disheartening. But, for that to happen, at

least you HAD a lead. Times, like there have been several of in softball this year, where the bats do absolutely nothing the whole game, and you NEVER have a lead, are even worse, to me. Feeling like your team is totally incapable of scoring even one run off a pitcher is a bad, bad place to be.

Nice post 76er. If everyone would just remember that no team goes undefeated in baseball, every team has the same number of scholarships, and because there are so many kids that make baseball their life, any team can win on any given day. Having a chance to win the ACC (we do) and making the the NCAA Tournament (we do) makes this a good year and we should appreciate and celebrate that. Finish strong Tigers.

Might end up being a good thing being humbled before the post season so you come in with a chip on your shoulder.
It hurts losing Will, the kids a great player that makes others better by leadership. We need some help with pitching, it always takes time.
This team is still capable of making a super regional but anything further would be bonus at this point. We have played some great baseball all season, much better than expected. Wake has a great team, nothing to hang your head about forsure.
Let’s go boys! Tigers Fight Fight Fight…. when it gets tough!

Now there's a little perspective, well said.
What you've correctly pointed out is that many Clemson internet fans lack basic self control. You see it everywhere these days, but especially on the internet. It's why I don't Facebook...
I'm with you. I have no desire to log into TNET to witness someone who lacks basic self control using the internet to anonymously bash Clemson...no thanks.
Clemson baseball is on the upswing, and you're only as good/bad as your last game or at bat. It's frustrating to not be immune to weekend's like this past one, but I think Backich has us heading in the right direction.

I don't miss reading many tnet posts on Football, or baseball. I have not seen a single post calling for Bakich to be fired. I think he is doing a great job. He will probably turn out to be one of the best baseball coaches we will ever have. I have seen one or two posts calling for the 3rd base coach to be fired but 99.99% feel differently.
Fans are fans. Doesn't matter what team it is, fans are going to be fans. Second guessing teams, coaches, players, etc. is just part of the sport and part of being fans. I just don't pay it that much attention because I know it is what most fans do at one time or another. Especially those who really want the team to win. If a fan is pointing out a fact, and that fact is not a positive for the team, then so be it.

That's what got on my nerves when we started slumping. People all of a sudden came out of the woodwork to bash this team. I've gotten to the point now where I don't respond nearly as kuch as I was.

No one has time to read all that but just from glacing at the first sentence I can deduce this a trash post. Probably something about not criticizing crappy play and just trust the process and be better fans...laughable nonsense
