Spoke to the Dad of a D1 commit this morning...
Dec 15, 2021, 12:33 PM
|
|
I asked about how hard was it for his son to finally make a commitment to the Power 5 school he selected, and his exact response was:
"We just decided to go for it. I mean, if it's not for him, he can just transfer somewhere else."
And THAT, my friends, is why Coach Swinney and a LOT of other coaches at the high school and college level HATE what has become of college athletics.
Too hard? Leave. Competition? Leave. Not important enough? Leave.
Life is gonna bite some of these people in the a$$. They won't have a clue how to fight through and soldier on.
Just leave...

Your Neanderthal view that kids should be forced to do something they don’t want to do is problematic and makes TigerNet an unsafe space. I am literally shaking. I just can’t even. It is institutionalizing the oppressive power structures of systemic racism and the intersectionalism of ageism inequities.

nobody said ....... "kids should be forced to do something they don’t want to do".
OP was saying it would make sense for kids to take some time and make a decision that is truly good for them.
The dad is saying, don't take the time to make a solid decision, just go for it, pick a school and if you don't like it, then try your luck in the portal.
Its all good with me, Clemson will do well in this environment. We will focus on kids that we believe are taking the time to make a solid long term decision. We'll miss on some and hit on some, but we'll do better than the programs that treat this as dating instead of getting engaged.
Spare me your disection of the dating / engaged analogy. I know its different, but if u have as many brain cells as travis hunter's agent u get the point.

Um, making a kid stay at a school he committed to, when he’d rather just leave, is literally “making him do what he doesn’t want to do.”
A single brain cell could have told you that.

While I think you are being a touch dramatic on the forcing Kids (18 yro) to do something. I do understand your point. The answer is to make a CLEMSON degree and on field success worth it to these “kids.”

Young men were able to transfer in the past. They just had to endure some obstacles such as sitting for a year. It isn't about making them stay, but making it where their current team, fan base and even the young man himself has some stability.

No one is being forced to do anything. Players quit school and walked away long before we ever heard the term transfer portal. The problem now is that it is being made way to easy to just give up for any reason or no reason. The values of working to earn what you get and being dedicated to achieving a goal are being minimized or thrown away altogether. It’s no more forced on them than needing a job to make ends meet is forced on most of us after we finish school. They can choose that job. They can play football or do something else altogether. You are being way too dramatic and extreme.

Do you know the meaning of commitment. Kids now days are being raised as little wusses. Don’t like something, just quit. Got your feelings hurt, go to your safe space. Just sit inside all day and play your little games about Demons and Wizards for so long they begin to think it’s real

Why are you literally shaking and what can't you even? Sounds like it's physically debilitating. Maybe take a break from Tnet if you can't stomach an opposing viewpoint. BTW, these kids aren't being forced to do anything they don't want to do.

What’s surprising is that despite their liberal fragility, multiple libtards were able to: a) recognize they were being mocked, and 2) click the TD button with the nearly overwhelming trembling that was literally racking their bodies.
LOL. Luv you guys.

I agree that coaches make too much money but culprit is the NFL, it simply has a rule that they will not hire any kid that is not 3 years out of high school. Why? They should be forced to sign people of any age. Trevor could have signed after year 1, lost prob. 50 million due to NFL.
Further, should there be any rules at all? You seem to think a kid can just switch teams at half time if the that makes most sense to him. His team mates may ask "where is Joe?", the answer "He transferred to the other side, it was better for him in short and long run."
Finally, why do even have reduced admission requirements for one type of students? I say admit whoever can play and can meet the college standards.
There needs to be a D-League for NFL, then may be about 300-400 kids can make D-League salaries, get paid fr their time, take some nutrition and other classes, and then wait for draft. They can play on sunday mornings or some slot or even Saturday, plenty of channels now someone will carry the games.

And that was what I saw when we were building an new wing on the Detention Center. A former #1 pick from Clemson who ended up at a certain NFL Team and when his playing days were done, he had no degree, saved no $$$ from his playing days and was laying bricks. He told me he had made a lot of mistakes and not getting his degree was #1. A few days later we found his Clemson Championship Ring at a Pawn Shop. This is what is going to be repeated years later (today) over and over. Kids making foolish decisions.

This is how life works. If you dont like your job you get a new one. If you dont like your major you switch. If you dont like where you live you move. I dont see how its the kids fault at all. Make Clemson a place where kids dont want to leave and it works itself out.

NIL $$$ - schools which pay their players the most $ will win out. May as well just call it minor league and pay the players and also make it so they take no classes and get no degree and just pay them whatever they bargan with their union.

Right. Just don’t make it too easy or even an enticement to leave. All of your examples carry some consequence. I think all Dabo is trying to say is the ere should be some consequences to force players to stop think and and make sure it is a good decision.

That’s the way a lot of people approach life. It’s a new world, not just in college athletics.
I actually interviewed a new grad back in June that told me, at the first interview, that she had no intention of staying with us for a year. She didn’t seem to understand when I ended the interview right then.

So now the transfer portal is full of 100’s of kids with no where to go. The only reason they are in the portal is because they could not start/compete where they were. (Few exceptions) now they are stuck with no team, no scholarship! Great move NCAA. And out of the 100’s of players currently in the portal, I doubt there is more ONE that would start at CLEMSON.
