Dream coaching scenario

1. Conn to an admin position or unemployment line. Don’t really care. What Grayson connection has he gotten since he left there?
2. Goodwin back to booth in more of an analytical capacity. If you want him to keep co-DL title for appearances/salary, so be it
3. Go out and get an up and coming DC whose teams are known for playing physically
4. Skalski or Boulware coaching LBs in some on field capacity
5. Jeff Scott back in some on field capacity

2 1000 yard rushers in a row.
#3 HS RB in the nation coming in.
Most teams would love to have that mess.
The ignorance of posters like you is incredible.

No, your response was personal in both tone and content ... saying you were not being so is transparently not true. You can disagree without calling someone ignorant. Even if I agree w/ your take on Spiller.

I thought trashing CJ was misplaced and, frankly, ignoring the facts. Or, perhaps, ignorant of facts.
My comments were more mild than 80% of what’s posted on TNet. Surprised you were so offended.

LOL. That's a bit of gasslighting. No one was offended, not me or the other poster that made the comment about not going personal. You are the only one reacting as if you are upset that we pointed that out. Two of us simply pointed out there was no reason to be ugly in a discussion about football ... no personal attack there. You could even disagree with his comments on CJ without resorting to calling people ignorant ... twice ... which is somewhat personal. All we're saying. You did start with that ... and still no one has said anything rude to you.
And on CJ, I'll agree, you made some good points based on stats/data that we ignored. I'm not convinced hiring Spiller was great simply b/c of lack of coaching experience. But stats haven't been bad and Mafah was injured (so can't downgrade Spiller for that), and our OL has not been great (although greatly improved this season IMO.) I'd say of all our challenges, Spiller at RBC is not even close to being a problem in compasiron with LB fundamentals, run defense, ST (punting).

I am just playing devils advocate here as I think the jury is still out on Spiller. But there are two problems I have with your points.
1. The 2, 1000 yard rushers were recruited and developed pretty much before he got here by another coach, 2. This is the exact same scenario that saved Grishams job last year, and how much of this is Spiller's doing, or how much of this is Dabo?
The problem with Nepotism hires like this is they get way too much leeway and it is hard to fire them, even when they do a horrible job. It is virtually impossible to fire them if they do a fair to middling job, see Grisham for example. I have nothing against Spiller as a person, I just think the jury is out on whether or not he is a great RB coach.

Dabo fired Streeter, Austin and Bates -- ALL of whom were definitely his guys. Silly to think he wouldn't do the same, if push comes to shove, with anyone else.
But here's other thing: so CJ gets absolutely zero credit for developing either Shipley or Mafah into the great runners they are? No credit whatsoever for recruiting Gideon?
Grisham gets no credit for Westco, Moore or continued development of Williams???
This is the problem: y'all see what you want to see -- so locked in on someone to blame that you refuse to see the good.

I'm referring to the fact that for the last four games, we had no RB the coaches felt confident in behind Mafah. Therefore we ended up playing a hurt Mafah with no legit backup. Haynes might have been, hate it he got hurt. Point is, at this point we are weaker than we've been since probably when CJ played. Love Mafah but he was not elite. We haven't had that since ETN.

This seems personal as well. Poster was not being defensive in any way in my view ... was just making some points ... and your response was to say that people remain "ignorant and defensive." Hard to have a friendly convo like that.

The guy was wrong. We had our top 2 backs go down. The others simply aren’t ready, yet he called the running backs room, a mess. That would be the norm at about any school, this late in the season.

No kidding.
Almost no RB room in the country goes 4 our 5 deep.
Yet our fourth string RB scored a touchdown yesterday!
People want someone to crucify.
Just seems like CJ is a weird sacrificial lamb, to me.

I for one do agree that the jury is still out on CJ WOW the last few years we have had solid running back play from our starters I'm pretty sure that he did not recruit or get those guys to commit. Actually I'm pretty sure they were already committed when Tony left for the Virginia job. So what since then? Gideon should be a stud and actually I thought EZ was a solid pickup with some good depth players like Haynes along the way. I'm more concerned with the development. Have any of those guys gotten noticeably better while they were here? Honestly not sure. I do think as the offensive line gets better more talented running backs will give us a look again.

It ain’t CJs fault he can’t play the younger backs, Dabo protecting there mental capacity, I saw nothing last night that said those kids should not be getting real meaningful reps. And remember the name Jarvis Green.

No to #4, replace that with hiring Zac Alley away from Okla to be Co-DC and LB coach, and move Goodwin permanently to the booth as a Co-DC (but really in name only).
But make the main decision maker and LB coach Zac. Add to that number 1, hire a good proven Safeties coach or promote Reed to run the entire secondary after letting Conn go. But don't do the Mickey Mouse crap of promoting a buddy or GA with little or no proven experience that got you in this mess to start with. Add a number 6, and for the love of God, please hire a FREAKING SPECIAL TEAMS COACH.

but *IF* I were making the call, I think I would go get the best DC I could get and then let him interview/hire the staff under him. If it's a clean sweep... so be it. If he wants to keep most of the staff... fine with that as well.

6) but probably needs to be number 2- Special teams needs to be special again. Everybody loves to rag on the defense but the two blocked kicks killed us against louisville. Our punt return team neither rushes the punter or sets up a return. Our front line on kick return is always the hands team. I’ll give that one a break since most kicks go ouit of the end zone so constantly protecting against a surprise onside kick might not be a bad strategy if that is why we are doing it.

Facts here: two national championship games Skalski eliminates himself with targeting. Twice.
Bowlware has not been anywhere but Clemson. Get some experience- excel elsewhere - just like Coach Eason.
Jeff Scott expresses often and emphatically he is enjoying his life.
