You just need to go back to one of his best quotes.
“Wrong is wrong, even if everybody is doing it. And right is right, even if nobody is doing it.”
Yes, I stand by our Championship Coach who has principles and believes college should be college.
End of story.
If you don’t get it…too bad. Be miserable.

Money is NOT the root of all evil. The Godless pursuit of money MAY be the root of MOST evil. There are certainly other things outside of money (and the pursuit of it) that inspires people to do evil. Lust for example.

The LOVE OF MONEY is the root of all evil.Dabo gets paid to win football games not to be a preacher. But if his goal is to be a youth pastor he should resign or step down!

I respectfully disagree Spider. Even Tommy Bowden said that “We will win, and win the right way.” I believe that doing things the right way will win out in the end. Look back in the Bible, even follow things that people have done in the past century. Wrong is temporary, even though it looks good right now. Clemson will get back to the top, unless college sports collapses upon itself.

He doesn't care that college football has essentially changed to a professional sport.
He'd rather struggle doing what he defines as the "right" way instead of adapting to the sport the "wrong" way.

I agree with that quote, and I think most reasonable people would. Where I may disagree is what he considers right and wrong.
If you’re referring to players getting paid… I received a few academic scholarships while attending Clemson. I also had a job that compensated me outside of the scholarship benefits that I was receiving.
That being said, I think it’s reasonable to be compensated while participating in college athletics. There is too much money involved for it to be considered a hobby or recreational activity. Yes, the amount of money that players are making seems surreal, but look at the coaching salaries and buyouts these days. It is a BIG MONEY business.

So Dabo (who makes 11 million plus a year) and Clemson ( which brings in millions a year in the Athletic Department) are too pure for this fallen money obsessed college athletics world??!!
Should we just withdraw to the Ivy League or become Bob Jones without football to maintain or moral high ground??

As much as I respect Dabo and appreciate what he’s done for Clemson, I have to agree. Of course I want him to help these young men become great men in all ways but that is not his major job. That’s his philosophy . He still gets paid this salary to be a coach and run a program. As the CEO , the buck stops with him. In no way am I attacking him or his beliefs but we seem to have lost our focus. And I wonder how every other school finds money to pay players out from under us .. I find it hard to believe we’re “ poor little Clemson with no money”??????

I think you’re angry that people are calling out Dabo for this mess the program is in. I think you’re crashing out over it because you’re obsessed with Dabo and possibly even have a man crush on him. You and a select group on here all fall into that category.

What exactly is wrong about using money to recruit and gain transfers in today’s game? Nothing, it’s legal by both NCAA and legislative standards. Laws change and we have to change with them, by your logic we should still be in the prohibition era banning all alcohol sales

Just because some idiots suddenly made it legal - with no consideration of any guard rails - does not make it the right thing to do.
Coach Swinney believes in a development college football program. He is right. He should be respected for having principles, and not just jumping off a cliff because everyone else did.

What’s “wrong” is not paying someone fair market value for their services just because they’re attending classes, while paying others (coaches) fair market value for their services.
I don’t like today’s circumstances anymore than you (NIL negotiations, decommits, transfers, etc).

Incoming HS commits. In the past it was prospective transfer players as offers weren’t close to being competitive. Rev share has helped on the retention and portal side. Dabo needs an improved plan for high school recruiting.

Ok well you and Dabo can hop in a Time Machine then and go back to this fantasy land you speak of. It’s not coming back, they’re not going to get rid of NIL, Rev Share, etc. so get that out of your head.
Just because the players are compensated doesn’t mean the mission is lost to develop them on and off the field as men. It can still be done. It just can’t be done the same way, Dabo has to evolve with the times or he’s not going to have any quality players to develop at all.
The man is paid $11m annually to win games, and he’s not going to do that with 2 arms voluntarily tied behind his back for some bleeding heart lost cause.

I agree with your point of view and I understand so I hope you will be ok with going 3-9 and 4-8 most every year. We do have some good kids but there's a lot that shouldn't even be on the power 4 roster. If so it should be in a lower level program.

What do you mean by when you say, I stand by our championship level coach?
I’m just trying to figure that out. Because for me, I love Dabo. I don’t wanna see him fired. And I also don’t wanna see him ruin his legacy. We can support and love Dabo while also recognizing that he’s no longer the championship caliper coach that he used to be.
The question remains can he bring us back to the top again? Now that’s up for debate. A lot of us don’t think he can and don’t think he will. Mostly because the landscape of college football has changed and the way he built those teams before cannot be replicated today. He dug his heels in and refused to change as the landscape changed. Now we can see where we’re at.
So another question would be will he make the major changes required to compete in today’s college football landscape? I doubt it.
But again, I’ve said this before I don’t want him fired. I would much prefer him to just retire to preserve his legacy. He can stand on principle and say I’m not willing to make those kind of changes so I’m out. This is not the type of football I’d like to coach anymore. That’s very respectable and honorable. And I would totally understand if he backed out. Dabo would have a statue built. We can always remember the 2010s as the greatest decade in Clemson football history.

Sports exist as a means by which to conduct competition. Completion results in 2 outcomes: winning or losing. College sports in the NIL era has changed the game, in my opinion for the worse. However, if its his intent to do it his way, and that way continues to result in losing seasons, than we must ask ourselves several questions. Are we ok with losing? Is his way truly the right way? Is his way worth 11 million a year? What's the greater impact on Clemson athletics and the University as a whole? Like it or not athletes come to Clemson win games and compete for Championships, everything else is icing on the cake. The Paw Journey is amazing, but it doesn't sell tickets. Dabo's faith is great, but it doesn't increase revenue. Graduation rates are cool, but they dont increase applications. Like it or not his first objective is winning, he got the job because it was his predecessor's downfall as well. I dont want or wish for a program free from integrity, but winning is what matters. There's no guarantee that from year to year players will stick around. They are gonna chase the money. In that regards, we should be chasing victory. Not hiding behind morals from a bygone era.

You are choosing to make this a moral and ethical issue Row86. Clemson and Dabo are morally superior and ever other coach and program is agnostic or heathen. Not buying it.
Coaches have a job to do. When they half-a$$ it on recruiting capable starters & depth and do not use the transfer portal to compete, they place their players, boosters, fan base and university in a position where they can't win, and make the players more susceptible to injury.
Dabo Swinney was once a great coach. He has made decisions that have hurt the program. While you are placing Coach Swinney ahead of Clemson supporters and the University, others disagree.
We both have pulled for the Tigers and the same things for many years, and it's OK to disagree on this situation.
